im curious has anybody shot 7.62x51 (nato rounds in there 308 win? ive been doing some research and found that you can shoot the 7.62 round through a 308. Has anybody done this or have any input? Im wanting to buy bulk ammo for my 308 and if i can do this and use 7.62 rounds it would be cheaper. I have a H&R single shot 308.

I thought the 7.62 x 39 was the equivalent to .308

There is no civilian round equivelant to a 7.62x39 7.62x51 (NATO) is equivalent to a 308

I have always heard you can shoot 7.62x51 ammo in a .308 win rifle, but not supposed to shoot .308win in a 7.62 nato rifle. I believe .308 win is higher pressure. Good luck!

You are correct with that statement.. I've read online about people doing it but they do it with bolt guns. Was wondering if my single shot would be ok to shoot it thru as well though.

If its fine with a bolt its fine with a single shot, the only thing would be a 308 chambered auto might not cycle well with lowered pressure 7.62

funny how 5.56/223 is the opposite. you can shoot .223 in a 5.56 but not 5.56 in a .223.

I shoot .308 rounds through an arsenal rework M14 chambered in 7.62x51. Works just fine.

Just because someone has done something unsafe and gotten by with it does not make it safe.
7.62 x 51 in .308 chamber = safe .308 in 7.62 x 51 chamber = unsafe .223 in 5.56 or .223 Wylde chamber = safe 5.56 in .223 chamber = unsafe

Thanks for the input guys.. I'm gonna pick up some 7.62x51 rounds and see how they shoo before I buy a lot.. Obviously I won't hunt with the rounds, just wanting to stock up on some ammo and was going to go this route with the 308..
