Cannot find any .308, 150-gr anywhere. Wally is sold out of most everything. Guess I'll have to call my guy at Westchester and have him send a couple boxes.

I'm good. When what's-his-name got elected in 07 or 08 I bought 300+ rounds for every caliber I own. I'll probably repeat that in the coming weeks.

Speaking of all this stock-piling...what's the best way to store ammo? What's the shelf life if stored properly?

temperature controlled environment is the best way to store it. I have mine in dry storage boxes in the back of my closet until my gun safe gets installed in my building...

Dry storage, temp controlled, dessicant packets from all the kids toys. Seems to work for me. I would say close to forever. I am still shooting shotgun shells from kmart in 98.

The .308 shortage of 150 grain hunting has very little to do with the current hoarding. I work for a wholesaler and we were out of all of the cheaper 150gr .308 almost a month ago.

Normally .308 is a decent seller but we saw a huge increase in the sales this year.

I love it but for years it wasn't one of the most popular calibers. Guess it's made a good comeback.

Airtight container in a controlled atmosphere and you'll be good for years.
Rounds you intend for target shooting etc 15-20years.
Rounds you intend for life safety issues change out at 5 years.

I have a partial box of 22 shorts that were my Dad's. Before he passed away, he told me that they were bought sometime in the mid to late 1930's and were used with his Dad's single shot 22 rifle from Western Auto (which I also have) for killing hogs in the fall. Just out of curiosity, I shot one a couple of years ago and it fired fine - sounded about like a "fresh" round. I shot another round with the same result. The best I could tell, the box was just stored for the better part of 70 years on a shelf in the closet. I also have some WWII surplus 30-06 rounds that as of a couple of years ago shot just fine. So, with a little bit of care in storage (mainly kept dry and away from heat and extreme temperature cycling) ammo lifetime will not be a problem for anyone currently alive.

AS some others said, ammo that is kept in a temperature controlled environment has practically an infinite shelf life. WWII ammo still shoots great.

Regarding sold out ammo, the way to avoid that is to reload and stock up on components. Primeres especially. That way you aren't affected.
