Bow hunting turkeys

I've killed birds with shotguns but I'm wanting to put an arrow in one this spring. I know that a blind would be my best bet but that's not my style. I want to do it while running and gunning! Has anyone done it this way before and if so got any advice?

I aint never tried it but I think I might one day. I hate blind hunting too. I want to bow hunt a turkey running and gunning too, just like i would with a shotgun.
other than missing an oppurtunity, the biggest thing that scares me is wounding them. I have heard two many stories about them getting wounded and running off.

shot a hen this fall running and gunning during archery season.
she limped away, leaving blood and losing my arrow.
I'm kind of turned off it, at least until I can be sure that I will get a perfect shot on a turkey, not near as easy as shooting a deer. I prefer the scatter gun.

I tried it during deer archery season. Seems to me there is always a limb or vine in the way when I hunt the woods. I dont really care for setting in a blind while turkey hunting.I get enough of that during deer season. But I just aquired alot of farm country to hunt and looks like I may have to get a pop up blind.

I'm going back to shotgun.
Shot just over the top of one. Lost the arrow in heavy brush.
Set an ambush for another. Arrow passed through and lost in the trees somewhere. Thought she was down and out but she took off running when I walked up. She went off a cliff, I went after. Finishing shot broke the arrow shaft.
So, for one hen:
1 arrow set up - $30
1 arrow shaft - $7
Blade replacements - $7
Climb/fall down the cliff, no injuries but no fun either.
Bottom line, the experience was great but don't want to repeat.

Alot different in spring, when you are calling to a gobbler. Especially early in the season before it greens up. If using a decoy, which I use a strutter, it helps to keep his attention off of you. I have done it without a blind, calling and ambushing, but without cover its tough. Not really as hard as one would believe, but it may take some effort and time. Very rewarding when it all comes together.

What type of broadhead would be best ya think ?? looks like a razor sharp head to hunt deer would just slice rite thru, dont know if a expandable would have time to open up....dont know myself, but would be some serious braggin rites to bag one with a bow.

Oh, an expandable opens up!
I used New Archery Products 125gr Spitfire.
I get full penetration on deer, so I don't think they even slow down on a turkey.
I have seen some heads made specially for turkeys. Not supposed to penetrate as deeply.
