I handload so ammo shouldn't be a huge factor. Let's here what you huys think. Hunting will be the biggest priority with minimal target shooting in the future.

.308 for your application. Better bullet selection by far and should the need arise to buy factory ammo, far better selection. More brass availability. More energy on target.

Toss up IMO if you reload. Both are great rounds but I have gravitated toward the 6.5s in recent years.

Have 2 308s, but I really want a 260. The 6.5 has a lot of bullet choices from varmint bullets to big game. There are also a lot of target bullets available as well. Most of your long range crowd prefer the 6.5 because they have higher ballistic coefficients, and you can start them out at higher muzzle velocities when compared to comparable 30 cal bullets.

I have both and have droped deer with em. I like both of them. I do reload. The 260 is a 6.5 in a necked down 308 case.

I like the 308 personally and wouldn't get ride of mine for a 260. However my next gun will be a 260. If you want to just be different then go 260. As of now there are just a bunch more options for a 30cal bullet but both are sweet calibers
