how often will a yote come into bow range?
particularly in an overgrown field
I will be stillhunting with the bow in the gusty wind for deer but will bring the rabbit distress call and maybe set down and try it a couple times. seen plenty of yote scat in there. probably not much chance of actually getting a shot even if I do call in a yote, but worth a try.

as long as the wind is right and he dont spot you he will come all the way to the sound thats given that they have not had the crap done scared out of them with guns. i have had them stand over my fox pro and look at the caller wondering where the rabbit is.
good luck with a bow love shooting them yotes with a bow i get the shakes like it was a monster buck

Pulling back your bow, on the ground, within range of a coyote will be a feat.

I have called several in to bow range ie +/- 30 yards but never went out with a bow to specifically try to it on a called in dog....that would be really tuff. i know several bowhunters that have loosed a arrow on a coyote during early season and been successful...i missed both that i had pinned...they are very good at "ducking the string"

I killed one with a crossgun earlier this year.

you have several things working against you. number 1- wind. number 2- grass/sage movement will make picking them up difficult. Number 3- inferior hunting tool. the risk reward is terible. yotes are so much smarter than deer. you are risking educating them, while your chances at seeing them in that terrain and drawing a bow and making a shot are slim. it is an illfated attempt that could hinder future success. yotes have long memories.

most yotes killed with a bow are walk by's shot by a hunter 20 foot up in a tree

I shot one opening day of bow. He came from behind me after some turkey. I thought it was a deer coming. I swung my bow over the side rail of my ladder stand and there he came out of the thicket. Needless to say, he got slick tricked. That is the closest I've ever had one during a deer hunt. From now on, I'll leave my ladder stand out after deer season for a little coyote action. Just remember, they are like hunting crow. They learn fast and don't forget. Once they are called in, don't let them leave alive.

thanks all. Figured it wouldn't be easy. Cant use a firearm in this one spot loaded with coyotes but can use a bow or air rifle. Got a friend who has a break barrel air rifle shoots around 1200 fps I think its a .177 caliber. Will this do the trick or would a .22 air rifle work better?
