Lets just say I am hunting with my 10 yr old, TN law says I can not carry a gun, However lets just say he shoots a deer. Is it leagal for me to use his gun and continue to sit there and hunt the rest of the day? We will be hunting together this weekend and if he is lucky enough to shoot one early in the day I would like to continue to sit for the rest of the day.

What law says you can't carry a gun?
You have lost me with your question.

SCN please correct me if I am wrong.
The only time you would not be able to carry a gun would be the juvenile hunts. During the regular season you can both carry a gun. You must stay in a position to take immediate control of the weapon if he is not hunter safety certified.

Correct with the addition that if he is not hunter safety certified he must have the apprentice license and have a hunter safety certified (or exempt) adult over the age of 21 who can take immediate control of the hunting weapon.

We are hunting on a wma, Being new to the state I am still trying to learn the different rules and regulations. He is Hunter Safety Certified. It must have been the Juvi. Hunt that I read that I can not carry a gun. So if I understand you correctly I can in fact carry a firearm in the woods while I am hunting with my son.

Yes, you may each have a gun outside of the juvenile hunts. But, you must be where you can take immediate control of his hunting weapon.
Since it is a WMA, he would be required to have a Type 94 permit (as would you).
It is hard to come from another state and get comfortable with the regulations. Please don't hesitate to ask, and if you need a quick answer, call (615) 781-6580 M-F.

But the Type 094 would not be needed on private property to shoot a doe, correct? The 10 year old would just need hunters education or apprentice lisence, correct?
Not trying to hijack thread, just thought we could add to it.

Incorrect unless you are talking about landowner exemption.
The Type 94 permit is required for ALL ages to participate in the Special Season Antlerless hunts. It doesn't matter if the hunting is done on private or WMA lands.
