any redneck ways to convert your regular outboard to a jet? like adding a duct to the lower unit or something... my motor is air cooled too. Would make a good off season project if the outcome is actually practical... lol

You can buy a jet foot for newer motors... It's 1/3 the rated HP at the foot. So a 30 HP prop converted to a jet is 20 HP at the jet.

It will set you back about $1800. Pretty simple from what I've heard. Take your lower unit off, bolt the jet pump on.

You may need to raise your transom height too or add a jack plate. It will depend on how your transom is made and rather or not your motor has a short shaft.

I used to have a setup very similar to yours, just carry extra shear pins and keep the motor unlocked so it can kick up if you hit something. It don't have enough weight and power to break anything if you drive it right. You might ding up the prop some but no biggie. I had a "river prop" and a "lake prop" just changed them out as seen fit. I'd love to convert my new boat to a jet but can't justify the cost until I break something, lol

cool. My motor doesn't even lock, it will kick up if it hits anything. Just don't want to have the prop get too messed up. I've had trouble with it slipping at full throttle after running the boat a good while. Still haven't pinpointed the problem and the clutch has a pin so I don't know the exact cause but it doesn't happen often.

I may just raise the transom with some wood, so the motor doesn't ride so low. Right now I start to hit bottom in knee deep water b

The slipping sounds like a prop bushing gone out. They are designed to protect the prop shaft from being over torqued by the engine when the prop hits something. Once it starts slipping as you described it will gradually get worse and then one day (possibly tomorrow with no warning at all) it will just go out. Then you are stuck at idle speed only. I recommend pulling the prop and taking it to a place like "the prop shop" in Old Hickory, they will rebuild it for probably $30

I've checked the bushing and it looked in perfect condition and marked with paint in case it slipped again to see if the paint moved. Honestly i haven't taken it off and checked since then. It could be slipping but it didn't show any signs of wear. I think fishing line getting wrapped on the shaft (this has happened) might have something to do with it.
