I know this isn't "gardening", but you guys are green-thumb plant gurus, and that's the type of knowledge I need 
My back yard has never been treated professionally for any kind of weeds. The front yard was prior to us moving in 4 years ago, and I've been able to keep it looking OK with do-it-yourself treatments that have saved a bit of money.
I assume that the desirable grasses are dormant by now in the back yard (it looks like all the green stuff is johnson grass, monkey grass, clover, dandelions, or stuff I don't know the name of). Is there a treatment method that I could use now that would save me a lot of headache in the spring?
I've heard stories of people putting Roundup on the yard in December, and it only killing the active/green weeds and leaving the regular grass alone. Is that true?
What do you guys recommend? If it matters, my back yard is pretty small (1/8 acre I guess).

I spray my yard with Roundup and Princept every year, late February, they are mixed together and sprayed with one application.
this past year I also mixed in Valor
yard is still basically 100% bermuda and weed free.
I have sprayed as late as April 1 and saw no damage

no one in my area will spray any type 2,4,D stuff regardless of what the so called experts say, just to many lawsuits in the past

2-4D is perfectly safe if you read the label and use it right. It works great on broadleaf weeds.
Roundup or a generic brand is great to kill off weeds this time of year, but make sure your grass us dormant. Do not do it if it is zoysia. Zoysia will look dormant but it probably will mot be all the way dormant. If you spray it with round up your yard will look very bad thus spring and zoysia grass is very hard to recover.
Just make sure your grass us dormant or it isn't zoysia.
if you use roundup, it will kill mist undiserables but you need to put a pre-emergent down too so it will keep other seeds from germinating.

"A" is a much stronger chemical that will kill most broadleaf

Farmers in Ark use it...they told me 4 oz roundup with 2oz of 2,4,D,A you have killed everything that thinks about growing

A. Hall, since you're in Bartlett too - where would you recommend buying it? I've never seen it in Home Depot, but then again...I've never actually looked for it. Might have been there all along!
