My Henderson County lease consists of 160 acres. 80 acres being ticket. We are looking to cutting 4 to 5, 1 acre plots in the thicket using a mulcher. Since that will be one of the only food sources in the lease what do y'all recommend planting for spring, summer, and fall plots? Thanks for the help.

I would do one elongated plot if you are dealing with a large 80 acre thicket.
I putting a few plots on my place this year and doing Imperial Whitetail clover.

One central plot to be used year after year is better than 4 or 5.Id make mine long and shaped like a lightning bolt.

Ok. It is actually 2 40 acre thickets with a road (4-wheeler size) in the middle. So I am thinking 2 long plots or still just one.

If you are planning on hunting over them (i would assume so), there's some logistical benefit to breaking the plot into two sections. That way, you are creating two hunting spots instead of one. That would greatly sway me towards keeping them separated.
It would also (hypothetically) allow you to rotate hunting locations more to keep hunting pressure down a bit.
I'll let the plant experts advise on what to plant.

I had a guy mulch about 2 acres that had been cleared in the past, maybe 15 years ago. I had alot of good size cedar that was chipped up. There was no way to sow any seed until most of the chips were cleaned up. I used a rock rake on my tractor and made piles everywhere. The chips would burn pretty good after they dried for a few weeks. I sowed wheat and clover for the last 3 years. Im considering letting mine grow back natural and keeping only a small portion for clover. My ground is really rocky and Im tired of reseeding wheat every year.
