I doubt that anyone can answer this for sure but I've often wondered about it.....I see alot of bucks every year with either broken tines or completely missing half their rack. Do they know they're missing their antlers? I don't recall ever seeing but 1 or 2 bucks that were missing both sides of their rack. I've wondered if that was because once they lose the first half they also lose the aggression to fight because they know they're at a disadvantage.

I doubt they lose their aggression. I've seen one-antlered bucks participating in sparring matches.

I have also but do you think most bucks lose their antlers in sparring matches or in actual fights?

I have noticed 6 different bucks this years with one side only. There is one that I have on camera nice 4 pts on one side and a browtine with a spike horn on the other side. I have seen more bucks this year than I have ever seen with only one side with horns.

Im not sure if it affects their aggression (dont think so) but I do know they are aware if an entire antler or most of a main beam is missing. Ive watched too many going thru thick stuff turn or move their head just enough to barely miss limbs and brush, duck just enough for their rack to clear an overhead limb, etc. They seem to know EXACTLY where and how big their antlers are.
