No but if you make a good shot and it drops or leaves a great blood trail it is a good bullet. If you think you made a good shot and there is not much blood and you even lose the deer then it is a bad bullet.

I've used xtps for the last 7 seasons. Never lost a deer with them. Rarely have a deer run. Not gonna say its the best. But it works great for me.

Some hunters like a bonded bullet that usally results in a pass thru. Others like a non bonded that tends to break up inside the deer with no passthru.I have used TC shockwaves both bonded and non bonded with good results.Seems to me with a passthru they often are able to run if you don't shatter a shoulder.I prefer a non bonded seems like I have more deer drop and the few that are able to run leave more blood.I hate to ruin a good shoulder .I prefer behind the shoulder and let the bullet do internal damage. I would not consider changing bullets because you had ONE run and didn't find him. No 2 shots are exactly the same. Way too many variables to change because of one deer.

How fast are you shooting? All lead is great up to a certain point and then you get the grenade effect.
For bang flops look to Barnes copper bullets. Shoot for the High shoulder shot. They won't take a step. A cheaper alternative is the Shockwave/SST's. Not as tough as Barnes but will do the job better than the XTP.

Any deer I've ever shot in the high shoulder has dropped like a stone regardless of the type of bullet.
