The telecheck ship has sailed. It was too expensive.

There will be a new mobile app ready for the spring turkey season. For the smart phone users I think it will be just as easy as telecheck would have been.

Having checking stations, internet check-in, and a mobile app for checking seems to me to provide plenty of options.

With the new app will there need to be any hard copies of permanent or temp kill tags required?

There will no longer be temporary or permanent kill tags. They are being replaced by a harvest log.

Subject to change before the rule is official, the desire is for app users to be totally paperless. However, it will be the responsibility of the hunter to be able to show the electronic harvest log and the recorded data. If you are in an area where cell coverage comes and goes, not having a cell signal when the officer checks you will not be a valid excuse. So...

We will have the details on the new harvest log and app coming out well before turkey season. We anticipate the TFWC making the changes to the Big Game Proclamation at the January Commission meeting.

So if you are hunting an area with no or poor cell coverage you 'could be' issued a citation because the electronic log won't come up- that is screwy!! Or maybe your phone is dead or fell in the creek(don't ask)-sounds like some temporary what ifs must be included for valid enforcement.

Or, you can have a paper log in your pocket for a backup. Whatever.

Or the game warden can pull it up on his phone or computer and see if it has been checked in. What's wrong with that?
