We usually get them up when the sit. But it is not for any other reason than to save our decoys. Other than that they are getting swatted on the water. I guess you would have rather seen them lose the ducks than finish them off. I see nothing wrong with chasing cripples down and finishing them off with the motor running. Try hunting on the Big River and shutting of the motor will trying to catch a cripple. Some people.

You do what ever you want... I ... Me.... Not you.... I don't agree with shooting ducks on the water. If I did it for a meal then I would... If I felt I had to do it to show off pics of ducks or sit around and tell people I am a duck commander then I would. I don't shoot doves on a power line or shoot bedded deer... Guess I'm wrong there also?

Duck hunting is a little different. Don't agree with shooting sitting ducks myself. No real sport in it.

So putting out decoys in a lifelike spread, brushing the blind in well, and calling well enough to bring ducks to the water isn't sporting?

By the time ducks reach our state, you can be they have been called and shot at many times.... if the hunter does his part and gets them in close for a shot, that's what matters.

If I call a duck(s) into range, whether it sits on the water or flys within range, it will get shot at by me.... round here you take what you can get.... I like a return on my investments.

Duck hunting is a touchy sport.... some feel one way, some feel another.... I respect everyones view... not bashing you for it man so don't take it that way. We eat what we kill.... I don't do it for the pics and never claimed to be a duck commander.

I can't grow a good enough beard.... \:D ;\)

I don't shoot doves off a powerline either.... can't say as I have ever walked up on a bedded deer either.

when hunting first came about 200 plus years ago everybody was a meat hunter bottom line. there was no ethical way about it you went hunting to bring home supper.
we still have a lot of meat hunter's today that depend on it for their family to survive on. Don't laugh with today's meat prices you better bet we still have meat hunters.
then you got your rich hunters that money is no object too. they spend thousands of dollars each year to kill a duck!
If you want to shoot your duck in the air that's fine, But don't knock the next guy that want's to eat his duck for supper.
Most of them folks that spend more than I make in a year to kill a duck don't even eat what they kill. so who's to say who is right and who is wrong??

I get more mad when fools jump our blind and leave their trash everywhere- even though there are two trash cans in our blind. Then they re-arrange 250 decoys, we've set out, for a half a days hunt. Then they're too stupid to recognize our jerk lines and tear the he)) out of them when wading/boating through them.

I dare anyone here to wing down a canvasback (or any diver)and then approach it in open water, kill your motor, drift to within shotgun range, wait for your boat to stop moving, and then finish off and retrieve your duck. You will go 0 for however many times you attempt it. I also don't know a single serious duck hunter that can honestly say they have NEVER shot a duck on the water. I don't make a practice of it, but I'm not above it.

Actually, I'm about 99.9% sure that it isn't against the law to have the motor down and running.

The TN statute, and I'm pretty sure the federal reg as well, says that the the boat can't be propelled by mechanical means. This means that all forward motion due to any mechanical means has to have ceased before shooting. It doesn't mean that the motor has to be up and not running.

that is funny because I heard (i believe from the area manager of PP) that it did have to be up and not running.

I like your way better
