I had a lease once, in a very remote, mountainous area of Fentress County with many members from right here on Tndeer.

We created a 2 acre food plot, the only "green" patch of ground in the middle of 2800 acres. Very few acorns were in the woods, and oddly enough, people argued over who got to sit over the food plot, the FOOD we put out for the deer, because 90% of the deer were on it every night and day.

Someone hunting over bait is no different than someone hunting over the only acorn tree dropping, the lone persimmon tree in the middle of 40 acres, or sitting over an old apple orchard at an abandoned homeplace.

If you don't agree, don't waste your time trying to tell me otherwise. lol ;\)

Food plots and Baiting is the same thing! You only put out either one to draw the deer to YOU! If the deer never eat out of your food plot would you still put it out with your stand beside it?

I'm not against baiting but I also don't know if I want to see corn piles pop up everywhere while I'm trying to hunt the traditional TN way of hunting and feel like I have to buy bags of corn (getting more expensive) just to keep up and have a chance at seeing deer. I know it's legal in places like KY but for those who are from baiting legal states, how many people use it vs those who don't, and are there problems for non baiters hunting on land adjacent to those who hunt over bait?

I'm going to answer both of your questions at once.

I want to be able to bait with corn laced with Canabis, deer are just to alert for me to have any luck shooting them. If they can eat from my "special" corn pile they will be wobbly enough for me to walk up and whack 'em on the head with my Browning 5 iron. If they get away the first time, the next morning I can dump a few bags of Cheetos out and fill my tag. TWRA should seriously consider this for next year.

Baiting is legal in tn, just not using corn. I was on a lease that had a mineral lick. In two seasons, 5 bucks were killed and two others missed (juvy hunters). The deer came to it like it was crack cocaine. \:\)

You just have to know what you can put out for bait. I know TWRA will say it's not bait, but trophy rock is. If it draws deer to it, then what are you doing.

Trophy rock/salt-mineral blocks are baiting in Virginia.

yep, cannot be put out after September 1

We always have a work weekend on the lease the 3rd weekend of August every year. We check cams, replace batteries, check stands and freshen mineral sites the last time for the year.

I have always been against it.

However, the two deer that we have killed off of our place both this year had corn in their stomachs. There isn't a corn field within miles of our place.

The past two years, we have had several deer and some nice bucks, on our food plots (clover mainly) all the way up until the season starts, then they disappear.

I do not think its a coincidence!

When other food sources are available, corn is low priority on the mind of a deer. Corn is actually a terrible food/nutrition source compared to other food sources we have in Tennessee.
I CAN see it being attractive to deer in the late season when most other food sources are exhausted.

odd but convenient and effective way to thin the herd...right?

Seems to be a slap in the face to anyone that has lost a loved one to a drunk driver....

In most DUI involved deaths, the DRUNK DRIVER survives the crash and the innocent driver hit is the one killed.

I want it legalized so that game wardens will have one less thing to worry about. We dont have enough officers to begin with and they shouldn't have to spend much time chasing down bait piles every time a neighbor or hunter complains.
