At least it aint China or Mexico. I would imagine Portuguese workers are more on par with Americn workers when it comes to rights and wages.

I have a very nice M70 Classic Featherweight 270 WSM pre 64 style bolt that was built in the last year before they went under that I would part with,,if I told you it was unfired you would not be able to tell that it has been fired about 30 times,,
I would take it, but it's right handed. I'm a lefty.

you can thank the machinists union for this.. Yep
If I'm not mistaken, The union was dissolved when Winchester went out of business and when they moved to the SC plant, no union workers were used.

Portugal is one of the Euro countries needing a bailout from their socialist policies that have bankrupted them. The countries are referred to as the PIGS-Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain. We are in their footsteps and not far behind.
Sad to hear about the M70, a famous American icon. What about the 10% unemployment in this country for 4 years?-there aren't any workers willing to ASSEMBLE M 70s? The USA is dying before our eyes. Man oh man.

Brownings have been assembled in Portugal for years. I see Winchester following their footsteps.

They may be referring to the machinist strike that crippled Winchester in the late 70s and put them on the path to where they are today...
