Legalize bait?

So a lot of you want bait legalized, I guess y'all want weed legalized too? $;\)$

I'm not against baiting but I also don't know if I want to see corn piles pop up everywhere while I'm trying to hunt the traditional TN way of hunting and feel like I have to buy bags of corn (getting more expensive) just to keep up and have a chance at seeing deer. I know it's legal in places like KY but for those who are from baiting legal states, how many people use it vs those who don't, and are there problems for non baiters hunting on land adjacent to those who hunt over bait?

I'm against baiting too....But the lease I hunt has the farm next door with 40 acres of non harvested con standing with shooting lanes in it and all around it with blinds set on all the corners...

I'm sure glad baiting isn't legal here in TN....

I hunted ky one year and we hunted stands and farms that were baited and some not baited. And we personally had more luck on the none baited stands and farms then the ones that were.

food plots take a lot more time and work, and usually cover at least a little area for deer to roam around and feed. baiting you can go to wally world and pay $8 for 40 pounds of corn and dump it in one big pile to concentrate the deer into one area where you can shoot them.

There is a huge difference food plots you must actually work at them. Baiting you just gotta pour it out.

Furthermore, food plots are a continuous source of nutrition. Randomly distributed piles of bait corn become randomly distributed piles of rancid, moldy, corn in a week.

if everyone baited, it wouldn't be baiting....if every tree drops acorns, those on the ground are far less attractive to deer because they are everywhere....same with bait. Why would a deer walk half mile to your bait pile when he can eat at another bait pile? Unless the corn is eaten rather quickly and replaced, it turns quickly into a stinky mess...no thanks.

As far as weed goes....if alcohol remains legal even though it is the number one abused drug in the country, then why not weed?

And DUI deaths is the number one killer of people between the ages of 18-24, according to my sources.....yet alcohol is still legal to buy most anywhere and in mass quantities...

odd but convenient and effective way to thin the herd...right?

I've hunted in KY all my life and only tried corn a couple years just to see if it worked. Yes both times I did have does and small bucks come to the corn piles which were close by. It was fun to watch them and I always use them to help me spot other deer since they will always become alart long before me. But other than what I posted I have always had better luck just hunting regulary. All the people I hunt with do NOT bait.

On the other hand there is a guy down the highway that is the type we all know about, one who has no probrem following his coondogs across everybodys property and follows the laws he WANTS to while not bothering to follow any other. When corn was cheap he had a set up for deer like it was a feed lot for cattle. No joke. The deer had their own draw which always got filled up at certain times from a feeder and had a water tank which he would re-fill every week.

As for baiting and a corn field there is a big difference.

Say your right hand, you place a PILE of corn 30 yards off to your left where several trails come together in a place where you've cut shooting lanes and KNOW there is nothing in the way of your bullets or arrows. Once a deer comes to the corn pile you have a clear open, measured spot to shot him easy. A 600 acre corn field is a totaly different ball game. The deer can come out at anywhere at anytime and never get more than 100-500 yards close to you. As much as they like to think they can MOST hunters CANNOT make a 300 yard+ shot.

This winter at my cousins farm we pull up all the fences and turn it from a cattle farm to a corn/soybean farm so I'll now have to change to a 300 acre corn field and the hunting will be different. It sure as heck will not be baitting.
