One radio talk show was having callers grade the coaching hire (A through F). They were all over the board.
I think the Gruden bandwagon was upset and the normal fans are going to give him time and see how it plays out. Most of the fans had the hire about a C or C+ I would also add that most Tennessee fans are more upset that Hart failed in the search for a new coach than they are at who was actually hired as the new coach. Hart is an idiot!!!!!! Gruden fans could not see past Gruden and they will always say he should have been hired but he was never very likely to be the new coach in my opinion. The fact that Gruden was not hired cannot be blamed on Hart but the rest of what happened or didn't happen can be blamed on Hart!!
Gruden was not coming, ever! Gruden used the University for some attention and to use his "In Demand Status" to make more money in a job, he never had any intention of leaving. Period. Same goes for Gundy. Gundy was never going to leave the University he played at and coach at his entire career. The only way Mike Gundy leaves OSU is if he is fired or about to be fired.
Charlie Strong was coming, it sounds like to me. Then he went home and his wife didn't want to go, he became nostalgic for what Louisville had given him, and realized he had a Heisman Trophy candidate coming back. Almost his entire team is coming back and he thought I can get one more year at Louisville, who knows how far this will go and guess what the SEC will have 3 or 4 coaches fired next year and I can come interview again.
I don't blame Hart for any of that. I'm glad he didn't hire Petrino. UT has had enough of the bad spotlight. I would rather see us making headlines for the right reasons. I don't know if Butch Jones will take us there, but I think he has a shot.

X 2...... Gruden's agent used the word "Fantasy World" when it came to Gruden coming to TN. I guess coaching a few yrs. under Majors, Married to a former UT cheerleader, and owning 10,000 acres in TN didn't matter.
Gundy was never leaving his ole school to come to UT. Just used the interview to get a raise.
Strong was never leaving UL since they are getting ready to play in the second biggest bowl game and most of his team is returning next season. Just used the interview to get a raise..
Who knows how many other phone calls went out to ole Bob and Jimbo behind the scenes before they narrowed it down to Butch Jones.
Who knows how the dance will end but you have to get out on the dance floor and give it a try.....

i can understand not being a vol if you are from somewhere else or are a vandy fan near nashville but not if you are a natural born tennessean.

Why is that stik? Most of the vol players are from somewhere else, so what's the big deal? Have you actually listened to the sports talk shows in Knoxville?
