I did same thing a few years back and did enjoyed learning the experience. There is a great deal of work involved with taxidermy that you may have not realized before actually doing the work. One suggesting on forms, I started using John Rheinhart preset eye forms and found those nice for a beginner, didn't have to worry about googly or crazy eyed deer, good luck with your new hobby, I am by no means an expert but if I can offer any advice if you want it.

Patience is key from what I've seen from people I know that do taxidermy. If you get aggravated, walk away and come back to it later. Look at it as art and you will have some beautiful mounts. No, I do not do taxidermy work but I have sat for hours and watched and asked tons of questions. \:\)

I have several pieces of commercial taxidermy equipment in middle TN if anyone is interested in purchasing or trading for it. I have not done any mounts in several years and could use the space that this stuff is taking up. I have a fleshing machine, hide tumbler, many videos, books, airbrushes, and various other small things.

Good luck. Just remember, when you decide to take a few in here or there to keep up the practice or make a extra dime or two your friend numbers will multiply and your freezer will fill before you know it.

Then you will keep putting your personal stuff off until you almost forgot you had it... Lol. I shot this mt lion on dec 10th of 2009. I started the prep work to the hide and the base today, three years to the day later ....

I will get the mouth opened up and put the form together tomorrow. And hopefully my cat fits well enough when i test fit it that I don't have to mod the form anymore, other than changing the closed mouth to an open mouth.... Hopefully Wednesday I will start sewing and by Friday night I will have finished sewing and have the face all put together. Got a ways to go...

But I got a fair amount done today

just be sure you tan your hides instead of using dry preservative.
