I just heard a rumor of a 700# bear killed in Carter Co by a stillhunter. Haven't seen any pictures, but the report came from an ETN officer.

This one was killed in Greene Co this year and had to be weighed at the local Farmers Coop. 690lbs

scn I bet this is it cause it was killed by a still hunter.

Tennessee produces very large bears by body weight.

The one in the bucket was killed on farmland so it could have been worse.

There are some really big bears in South Cherokee. The bear reserve is chock full of them.

Are most of the bear-dog hunts done in large groups?

I wouldn't say most but there are some hunting parties that may exceed 10 or 15, maybe even 20 people. I've seen as many as 20-dogs on one bear, but then again I've seen that bear still get away. They've killed several bear around here over 500lbs and a couple over 600lbs. A buddy of mine killed one that went 672. Had a full mount done on it, it's huge. Now you know why we pushed so hard to get HCP holders to be able to possess their hand guns during archery season. \:D Ain't nothing make you crap your paints any faster than running into a 500lb black bear, in the dark, with a bow as a defense weapon...

You put twenty dogs on a bear or hog and your greatly decreasing the chances of catching it. All your gonna do is push the animal harder it knows it can't take them whereas you put out half a dozen or even less, the animal might think it has a chance and is more likely to hold its ground and bay or tree. I always caught more hogs with only two or three dogs on the ground at a time.

I think the day in East Tenn is fastly approaching where folks are going to have to start changing their habits as it pertains to putting out their garbage, their bird feeders, etc. It is unbelievable how many bears I have had on game cameras for the last 3 years. Funny thing is, I have been running game cameras for a fairly long time and just in the last 3 years my camera sightings have exploded. I hate them. I hope you guys kill them all.

Yep! You know what you are talking about. 4-5 max for us.

I saw 42 dogs on a bear one time LOL It never treed but 26 of the dogs ether went to the vet or were stapled up. It was during training season too

Best way to describe dragging a bear is like pulling several hundred pounds of Velcro or steel wool through the woods! Lol They ain't as slick as they look!

And from the one I helped drag and load, they are cumbersome and when you go to lift it into a truck, it's a lot heavier than it looks.

That's a nice one

As far as the Polk Co. bear;

I was fly fishing up at Hiwassee River many years ago, had waded up a side creek when the water was down, and had one that was absolutely massive, MASSIVE run across the creek about 30 yards from me.

Thought I was gonna have to scrape out my waders.

The gooberhead in the pick has been my best friend since high school. He got most of the pics with the bear but he's not the one that shot it. It was a co-worker of ours. 4 guys come in from top and bottom and sides to cut it off while dogs were on it and he stepped around a huge rock to see if he cud see it cause the dogs were gettin close and there it was 15ft away. He put one in its neck before it tore him up. To get the max out of the scales they drug it back UNGUTTED. It actually weighed 519lbs. He hopes the drag didnt crack the skull to have it scored.

I went on a dog hunt in cocke county years ago. Awesome sound to listen to the dogs. On the last day I was there, a different group of hunters took a bear that went almost 600 lbs. runnin those hills is more than I can handle.
