Like most of you..I have had at one time or another almost every center fire caliber there is.. but somehow the .308 has eluded me.. after watching a couple of army sniper shows, having a buddy tell me he shoots 2 liter bottles a 400 yards all the time with his.. I decided I had to have one.. after a year of looking..I was at walmart one day and there she sat.. Ruger American rifle..308.. I had to have it.. browsed the scopes.. just what i wanted.. Nikon Prostaff BDC.. bullet drop compensator!! a set of rings, a strap, and a box of bullets and I was set.. zeroed her at 100 yards.. checked the dope on the nikon website.. the 4 little circles in my scope and my bullet combination were almost, 200,300,400 and 500 yards on the dot.. I got in the stand the other morning, set by a old logging road.. ready to air it out.. probably a hour in the hunt here come 2 deer charging down the road.. when they finally stopped I put the crosshairs on the first ones head.. kaboom.. graveyard dead.. shucked the second shell in.. kaboom.. right at the base of the scull.. grave yard dead.. I am so tickled WITH my LONG RANGE gun.. that morning my first shot was at 50 FEET.. THE SECOND AT 20 FEET.......LOL..

That is too funny.

I'm hunting With a 26" Remington 700 with a heavy barrel, Bell & Carlson Stock, Weaver 3-15x50 EMDR scope and such. Gun weighs 14 lbs and when I get good enough will easily shoot to 1000 yards. My furthest kill so far is 60 yards. :-)

I can tell you what happens when it's in the hands of someone who doesn't shoot freehanded. I spend three hours looking for a deer with half a leg missing. They are great guns, but they do a lot of damage and if you miss slightly the end result can be a lost and wounded deer.

What power was the setting you got those distances at? I used the same program and scope combo and depending on magnification, distances varied. I had to print off a chart and tape it to my stock so I didn't get confused.

I keep it on 3.. (for cases like this) I zeroed it on 9 as per instructions.. the 100 yard zero doesnt change with the power settings..but the 2,3,4,and 500 yards circles will change with the power setting, if you plan on shooting farther than 100 yards you have to have the scope set on 9 according to the booklet

Pressfit How do you like your ruger american? Does it kick hard being a light gun? It seemed to cycle smoothly at the store

I really like.. I'd buy another one tomorrow if mine got gone.. It fits good and doesnt kick at all.. my 6mm has more felt recoil than this does..

I'd be very interested in the same gun if they made it for lefties.
