2000 hunters drew, 79,xxx acres and 5 deer killed this wk end.
For the year 129 bucks 143 does or buttons out of 3 drawed hunts @ 2000 hunters each and 4 or 5 open hunts. Can't wait for that open hunt this wk end who all is goin?

i haven't set foot on the place since antler restrictions were implemented and i don't expect i ever will again.

The real question is....How many of that 2000 showed up for the hunt? I would wager it was a small percentage. I would wager too the number one excuse for not going was "It's too hot".
Hogwash, the deer do not vaporize in the heat. They are still out there. They may not move as much, but they are still there and they are still killable.
It drives me nuts how many people draw hunts then do not go. I wish there was a way to ensure more people would show up for the hunts when they draw them.
I have seen it time and again at many different WMAs statewide.

my brother got busted last year when he shot a button buck. i had it check out and everything at the big checking station. About 3 hours later a game warden came pulling up in my drive way and gave my brother 6 tickets for that deer.
And then told us that the antlers had to be 3 inches or longer now.
i said B******* show me where it says that in the hunters reg book.
he couldn't show me where it said it but he said it's pasted and i have to give your brother these tickets.
So now on i'll have make sure i can see antlers before i shoot anything now.

If he shot a buck with 3 inch antlers at Catoosa he would have gotten a ticket. They must have at least 4 points on one side or a 15" spread.
Also, unless you are on the open archery or juvenile hunts, you can't kill an antlerless deer at Catoosa.
What ended up happening in court?

Are you able to go a couple days early and scout like the draw hunts? No offense but what always ticked me off about Catoosa was I would go a few days early scout out a great spot and 30 mins after daylight here comes somebody "scouting". You have every right to do so but think of the others out there please

ive hunted catoosa 4 times seen lots of does only 3 bucks a five point and one with half a rack that had three points and an 8 point while scouting before the hunt. i have seen several people take nice deer. i started in 2009 hunting catoosa the genesis side.

I hear what your saying but its my only option. If I could get time to scout I'd do so. In the past five years, Ive had good success on Genesis. The places I've found and hunted I've only seen 1 guy while hunting. I'm definitely not the type to walk in on someone. Ill go the other direction. I mainly use a Topo and look for escape routes on heavy pressured public land. The three of us going share the same philosophy and will all be doing the same thing this weekend. Big deer are nocturnal up there this time of year and in my opinion, walk and stalk is your best bet.

I've had luck in the Peavine Otter Creek area. Next road after Potters Ford on left has always been a spot I like to hunt. It's a gamble up there always but that area has always showed good sign and I was on deer everytime. Hunted Catoosa many times and I always like that area around the river. Hope this helps
