The whole expiring components threat is a rumor. As for pricing increases, they usually come around 2-3 times a year. The end/first of the year period (Nov-Jan) is always one of the times for price increases.
I am a salesman for a shooting sports wholesaler. Almost all of the manufacturers announced a decent price increase at the recent NASGW show. They are going into effect anywhere from November through January and entail a 3-15% price increase depending on the part#. This is honestly not out of the norm for price increases over the past 4-5 years.
If you're seeing price increases now on the retail level it is because of 1 of 2 reason:
1 - ammo is in short supply and high demand, especially certain items (.223/5.56, 9mm ball)and therefore the retailers can fetch a bit higher price for what they do have.
2 - the retailers have ordered ammo recently and are having to show the new higher cost on the ammo coming in. Most of the larger retailers will go ahead and reflect the new cost in their system so as to not get into big trouble when the ammo comes in at that higher cost.
Price increases at the manufacturer level mostly reflect an increase in the cause of materials with a bit of increased demand thrown into the mix.

I heard there going to re-formulate gun powder to only have a shelf life of 1 year..... anyone else heard of this....
Well I just read right here on the internet, so it must be true.
