Back about 3 years ago State Farm almost doubled my homeowners insurance.
Been with them since 1991 and never had a claim but yet they couldn't / wouldn't give me a straight honest answer as to why it went up so much.
All I got was "everyone's went up".

Called Farm Bureau and ended up changing to them and ended up paying less than I was with State Farm BEFORE they went up.

Fast forward a few years and I call to get insurance on my son's truck.

Liability and comp was $1,300 for 6 months with three discounts. Two of the discounts we couldn't get yet. Never could get a quote for liability and comp without the discounts???
Finally they said liability ONLY was $1,059 every six months.
I just don't like the idea of only having liability as he has an 06 silverado that only has 9,000 miles on it and well, I just didn't want to do that.

Called Farm Bureau again and asked for a quick quote from a friend's wife. She told me a "ballpark" figure and it was good enough that I wanted to check into it for real.
She suggested I call the same agent that has my home owners because the switch would be easier.
She went on to say if he wasn't in the same ballpark or I didn't like how they talked to call her back and she would get us going.

Liability and comp with a $100 deductible was gonna run about $125 a month compared to the $176 a month for just liability from State Farm.

All said and done we have his insured with liability and comp and full coverage on my truck and my wifes car for $225 a month.

Tried to call State Farm back to tell them to cancel everything and since they have a new phone system (in a town of maybe 2,500 people) where when you call they NEVER answer the phone. It goes straight to an answering machine and then you have to wait for them to call you back.
I will try again Monday and if they don't call back I will just put a stop payment on their bank draft, then maybe they will call me.

Ive had Farm Bureau since i was 16. Never had a claim on my vehicle. 2 days after i put my wife on ours she backed into a Cadillac CTS. Bought my house in 09 and put insurance on it, had a claim in 2010 where they replaced our A/C unit because of a power surge. Noone ever came out and looked or anything. Just sent me a check for $5000.

Im paying $59 a month for full coverage on my truck. Im tickled with that.

State farm denied our claim of hail damage to our roof even though I watched them do the inspection and saw them mark all of the damaged spots. I had 5 neighbors have their roof replaced from the same storm, but according to them mine wasn't bad enough because it had 1 damaged spot to few in a 10x10 area.

We are going to switch companies after the first of the year even if we have to pay a little more. Our local agent is terrible to work with. Our original agent passed away and this lady took over and I haven't head anything but complaints since then.

tb

I have nothing against him, as he has always been nice to me, and I assume he is taking orders from his boss, but it is odd that after Dan retired stuff like this started happening.

I am sure there are horror stories with Farm Bureau too but I just don't understand sometimes.

It's hard to beat FB on insurance for a kid. They will start you out at the bottom and won't put them as primary on the most expensive vehicle. The rates will only go up if he has wrecks or tickets. I shopped around when Josh started driving and FB was thousands less a year.

I have my house and 4 vehicles with them and they have gone up every six months for the last two years on all vehicles and my house. I called the other day and said I'm tired of it and if they do not decrease I will shop around. I'm to visit them this week. What bothers me more is this never happened until the agent retired and a new one came in. I've had it.
