Over the Thanksgiving weekend I had 2 Great Pyranees dogs come by me. I was over 3 miles back in the woods (as the crow flies) and was not near any logging roads or public roads.
3 days later we seen the same 2 dogs 5 miles up the road laying in the yard of a house. I recognized them by the large bandanna around ones neck.
Dogs can cover some ground.

They sure were going off. I would have been mad if a big buck had been run up the holler and I had to just let him go beacuse of the dogs. Missing is one thing but not being allowed to shoot would have stunk pretty bad.

I wonder if shooting a deer being ran by coyotes is illegal?

I know it's illegal to hunt with dogs but if some stray dogs run deer by you by chance, is that also illegal to shoot em?

Several years ago I shot a nice 8 point as it cam bounding towards me. As I was walking up to it, there were 2 small terrier looking house dogs following along on its trail. They never barked, but they had definitely spooked the buck and were following his exact trail.
I guess I am a poacher.

I ask that very question catman and was told that it is illegal. And it is illegal to shoot the dogs even if they don't have a collar. Dogs are the biggest problem I have on my hunting land.

It would have been illegal if they chased one by me. Even if no one would know unless I told them, it would still be wrong. I don't know what the law is about a yote chasing. In that instance, I would be trying to shoot the coyote and to heck with getting a deer. I wouldn't shoot the dogs unless they came after me. It's not illegal then and I won't be kept in my stand or chased by an aggressive dog.

If they come after you, don't let shooting them break your heart! JMO
