x3. I thought with the Notre Dame love fest by the media it would go to Teo (sp) but glad for Johnny Manziel. He definitely deserved it.

My pick for best man wouldn't be a guy who got arrested 6 months ago and who still has criminal charges pending against him. At this point in their lives I'd say Klein and Te'o have Manziel beaten in the best man department.

Manziel got in a fight at a bar and had a fake ID. Sounds alot like my freshman in year college. I doubt anyone on this board can speak to the character of any of the three finalists with any credibility.

yes, he was head and shoulders above the rest. don't even know why Te'o was there. 59th in tackles, 3 of his teammates had more sacks. ridiculous

You obviously don't understand the role that Te'o played at middle linebacker this season. By design, he rarely blitzed or rushed the passer. 100+ tackles and 7 picks. Nobody has done that in years. Notre Dame would have lost several games without him.

Look at the final top-25. Johnny Mugshot beat one top-25 team and lost to the other top-25 teams he played.

Not sure why I'm even bothering to present facts. They mean little to the SEC fan club.

Except for maybe 3 teams, Te'o did it against nobodies..... Ole Johnny did it against the SEC and the future N/C team. Once Bama blows ND up, This will be no debate.

Add another stat in Manziel's favor - the only player at the Heisman ceremony with a mugshot. Hopefully he learns from it and stays out of trouble.

More misinformation. I feel like I'm debating with Obama supporters...

SMU, S. Carolina State, Sam Houston State, Arkansas, Auburn, Missouri.

6 awful "nobodies" that Manziel beat.
3 wins against average teams (MISS ST, LA TECH, OLE MISS)
2 losses to good teams (FL, LSU)
1 win against a good team (ALA)

The only top-25 team that Manziel beat is Alabama.

Again, if you look through the thick SEC fog you will see the facts.

I would cut your losses on the "best man" thing. I'm sure Johnny is a fine, upstanding young man with pending criminal charges and two fake ID's. He's right up there with Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow. Hopefully all our sons can aspire to such model citizenry when they are 19.

Cam Newton was at the Heisman ceremony last night? I must have missed him.

Yes, behavior standards are high in the SEC. Just ask Urban Meyer about his Florida years.

I'm looking for the equivalent of FCS powerhouses S. Carolina State and Sam Houston State on the ND schedule. I see Boston College, but that's about it. I'm also looking for 2 losses on the ND schedule, but I'm not finding any.

I am by far a SEC fanboy. I just don't get butthurt when my boy doesn't take home the hardware. No doubt Teo (spelling) seems like a great kid, but he just took up space in the running.

Didn't ole Michigan get drilled by Bama? The only big win I think Stanford had was against a weak USC that can't play "D". let's just end this silly debate..... What conference has one the N/C the last so many years.... That would be te SEC.... Carry on... \:\)

Yes, that's why he got the most points ever by a defensive player. Because people who know a lot more about football than you or I thought he was taking up space. Sigh...

Do you even follow football outside the SEC? Stanford beat Oregon in Oregon.

Check out this awesome Heisman run:

Florida - loss at home
SMU - joke
S Carlina State - joke
Arkansas - 2012 joke
Ole Miss - average
Louisiana Tech - average at best
LSU - loss at home
Auburn - 2012 joke
Miss St - average
Alabama - huge win
Sam Houston State - joke
Missouri - 2012 joke
OU - TBD

The media put him there. If you know football like you think you do, then you know it was a big joke. Doesn't really matter in the end, he didn't take the trophy home. It went home with the best player in college football. Sigh...

Not true... It's always been known in college football that ND has always been showed a lot of love by the voters. How many times over the years has ND been ranked high at the start of the season and did nothing from that point on? I'm just glad this time some of the voters had common sense.... \:\)

As gator said, who was won the N/C the last 6 about to be 7 years? The SEC. The facts have proven themselves and the best player won. What is there to argue about?

PAC-12 Champion and BCS #6 Stanford
BCS #11 Oklahoma
BCS #18 Michigan

I'm looking for the equivalent of FCS powerhouses S. Carolina State and Sam Houston State on the ND schedule. I see Boston College, but that's about it. I'm also looking for 2 losses on the ND schedule, but I'm not finding any.

Didn't ole Michigan get drilled by Bama? The only big win I think Stanford had was against a weak USC that can't play "D". let's just end this silly debate..... What conference has one the N/C the last so many years.... That would be te SEC.... Carry on... \:\)

Do you even follow football outside the SEC? Stanford beat Oregon in Oregon.

Check out this awesome Heisman run:

Florida - loss at home
SMU - joke
S Carlina State - joke
Arkansas - 2012 joke
Ole Miss - average
Louisiana Tech - average at best
LSU - loss at home
Auburn - 2012 joke
Miss St - average
Alabama - huge win
Sam Houston State - joke
Missouri - 2012 joke
OU - TBD

Navy - joke

Purdue - joke

Michigan St - joke

Michigan - joke

Miami (FL) joke

Stanford

BYU -joke

Oklahoma

Pittsburgh - big joke/ot

Boston College - joke

Wake Forest -joke

USC - joke

There you go....

Yes, that's why he got the most points ever by a defensive player. Because people who know a lot more about football than you or I thought he was taking up space. Sigh...

The media put him there. If you know football like you think you do, then you know it was a big joke. Doesn't really matter in the end, he didn't take the trophy home. It went home with the best player in college football. Sigh...

X2.....

I didn't know about his arrest. Now that I do, I still say he was the best player among the 3.He deserved the trophy as for as play goes. I also have no problem with him being a freshman.

That said, yes what he did is done a lot by young college kids. However, the Heisman has in the past been about more than just on the field play.

Due to his arrest for violating 4 laws at least and intentionally/willfully/premeditated violating 3 of those, he should not have even been there in NY.

Especially with the charges still not settled and it doesn't appear he was disciplined by Texas A&M either.

Just sets a bad example for future players.

The year he's had, the wins, the bowl game should have been enough along with a valuable lesson. He would then have 3 more years to win the Heisman.

Look at the final top-25. Johnny Mugshot beat one top-25 team and lost to the other top-25 teams he played.

Not sure why I'm even bothering to present facts. They mean little to the SEC fan club.

100 tackles isn't anything special. There are more than 50 players with 100+ tackles this year. 7 int's is good, but again not spectacular. Generally there are 4-5 players a year with 7. there are 4 this year and 1 with 3 pick 6's. Te'o is a good (I'll even say great) player on the only undefeated team in the Nation. That is the ONLY reason he was even invited to New York. ND will get skulldragged on January 7th. Roll Tide!

The right guy won. Heisman is for play on field, plain and simple. Thats why its not called the "Mother Theresa". Te'o is an awesome defensive player, Kline is a great player also. Both will have an NFL job. Teo will be able to say something else soon about his career, that he played in a NC game and LOST TO THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION..ROLL TIDE!

The trophy is given each year to the best player in college football.....as voted on by those deemed eligible to vote.

I have watched the presentation for many years and never remember the presenter mentioning the word "character".

No one is perfect.....he was the best player this year and was given an award based on his play on the field, and that is the way it should be.

congrats to him...

the Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded to an individual designated as the outstanding college football player in the United States. The Heisman Trophy is a national symbol of collegiate football experience and competitiveness.

Agreed.

When you remove character and integrity from anything, you have nothing left. To say you can have this award if you play well regardless of how unlawful you are off the field is no longer an award worthy of having.

But hey, the NFL thuggery is alive and well due to this mentality.

SEC baby !!!!

and when you judge people for one mistake and punish them as you feel the mistake warrants, you often times miss out on a great person....lessons learned can often make you a much stronger person....I'm sure the committee looked closely at this before deciding to give the award to him. I'll just leave it at that....

As fas as the NFL goes.....well, there's thuggery in every walk of life..lol.

You never miss out on anything by holding anyone to a responsible life of character and integrity instead of rewarding them for doing wrong.Sorry if you don't understand that but then again you often defend Obama as well.

IMO, you do not have the least bit of a clue.

Thuggery as a whole comes from a lifestyle where behavior is rewarded rather a lifestyle where choices have consequences.

I will go with character and integrity every time.

The other way is sitting at the White House.

The Heisman winner should have honor, not be a criminal or have a record with a case still unresolved.
