At the best any info will be used for figuring and applying fault for accidents.

There is a computer in Oak Ridge can compute all of that information in less than a second.

Some people are beyond help.

Your attitude that any intrusion into our private lives is ok "if you aren't doing anything wrong" is based on one single premise.......

The premise that the government is benevolent (look it up), run by good and honest people who would never abuse that power, AND all laws will be fair and just.

The truth is that government is run by people. The same mix of people in the rest of the population. Some good, some bad, some criminal, some insane.

The founding fathers understood this and wanted to prevent the government from having too much power in case the bad or criminal element ever got in power.

Look at history. Do you hear much about weak rulers murdering millions of people? Enslaving countries? Looting the treasury? Ripping away liberty? Nope.

I hope your attitude comes from ignorance. Ignorance can be cured through learning. Read about Thomas Jefferson and his views of government. It will really open your eyes.

I guess there are people that don't believe in principle. In case some of us have forgotten, if the government can, they will. I have absolutely nothing to hide, but it frustrates me that people give up some of their rights to privacy without thinking that once they're gone, you can't get them back. We have no idea what will happen in the future, but you can bet that whatever is coming down the pike won't be better for us, just better for the government. When was the last time the government relinquished control of anything to the public?

And then do what wit it? All the cospiracy theorists claim the government is going to get ahold of all this info and then somehow take over every aspect of our lives. This is the same government that cant even come to agreement on what color the sky is or what 2+2 would equal. Maybe you are all looking at it the wrong way. Perhaps the best thing to do is overload the government with all this data. They already cant handle what is on their plates. Lets just give them billions upon billions if not trillions of more bytes of useless data that they can fight over what to do with.

PCRC,

Here is what I expect they will do with the data......

"sell" access to the insurance companies and give them legal cover to use that information against us.

Unfortunately, the government has gone so far outside its mandated powers that it seems to be in the business of government mandated monopoly profits for its cronies.

Example.... Law mandating the elimination of regular incandescent lightbulbs. Follow the bread crumbs and you will find GE pushing hard for this legislation to prop up their investment in CFL lightbulbs and a near monopoly on them.

Example....Obumbacare. Government mandated PURCHASE of a product. Law written by the insurance industry. Destined to raise prices, lower quality, and crush the smaller competitors out of the marketplace entirely.

Once the insurance companies have access to that data, expect rate hikes. We as consumers will probably have to file class action lawsuits to gain access to their criteria justifying those rate increases.

Each insurance company already has their own "secret formula" for using credit score to justify your rate.
Since government has stifled competition, we have few choices if we don't like the policy.

You left out probably the biggest one: per-mile taxation. It's coming.
