Ok,so I said I was giving up archery hunting..Sold my crossbow a few weeks ago,and decided I was gonna give it up so I wouldn't pressure the deer on the properties I hunt..Well in those few weeks time, I've had second thoughts..LOL While scouting i find myself saying "this would be a good bow setup" and so on.So here we are..LOL IM looking at a Martin Ridge hunter over on archery talk.
I shot a compound for the first 3 years of archery hunting,and then switched to a crossbow for the other 2.I think im gonna switch back to compound and buy a good used one and just take it easy during archery season and not go all out like I usually do.I'll hunt the weekends only and only when its cool,and if I get a deer,thats good and if not thats ok too..But back to the question at hand...How are Martin bows? Good,bad, or ok???

My best friend shoots a Martin, not a bad bow at all. I'm afraid of speaking my true opinion as I'm afraid of getting flamed, but if it was me, I would go with a bow made by one of the big 3 (or 4). PSE, Matthews, Bow Tech, Hoyt. I have found that service and help is much easier to come by if you shoot a brand that your local dealer/tech carries. I didn't even buy my bow from our local bow shop, but he has helped me paper tune for free and swapped my string for free because he is familiar with the brand and probably doesn't even know I bought it used somewhere else. I have owned PSE, Bow Tech, and Matthews and can honestly say I don't think you will go wrong with any of these three. I currently shoot Matthews Monster if that says anything, and if I had to replace it I would be looking for a Matthews Switchback, Outback, or Drenalin. I just love those bows and they feel the best to me. They can be had used for 3-4 hundred $.

Shot a Martin for years without any problems. Great bows at reasonable prices IMO.

I currently shoot a Martin cougar. My last bow was a Martin firecat. I've never had any problems and they were easy to tune. I'll keep paying less more a great bow instead of a name.

Martin is quality manufacturer. Their stuff is made well and they are one of the oldest manufacturers in the country. Solid buy.

There is talk over on archerytalk about martin goin bankrupt.I personally wouldn't own a martin.I have heard way to many stories about limb problems with their bows.

I had not heard that they were going bankrupt. Hmmmph! I guess its because of all those limbs broken.
I have owned 2 Martin Cougar Magnums (still have one), I currently own a Damon Howatt Ventura made by Martin. I have worked on dozens of them and sold almost as many as I have sold. I have worked with Martin shooters for years and I have seen a total of ONE bow (1) with a problem with a limb. That was my bow when it was about 20 years old and the limb came unlaminated while I was shooting in the sun on a day when it was about 105 degrees. The limb was too hot to touch that day and I shouldn't have been shooting it anyway.
One of the prettiest bows I have ever shot was a Firecat. One of the most original designs I have seen was the Dynabow(a single cam bow from the early 70's). The Onza was a bow that Martin introduced with an extended grip giving it a built in overdraw. The Bobcat was a great entry level bow that many new bowhunters entered the sport with. And don't forget that the Duke boys shot a couple of old Warthogs.

If you are looking for a good , mid price new bow , PSE and Diamond are good choices .
