I have a Taurus Raging Bull in 44mag. with the 8 3/8 barrel. I was thinking of putting a scope on it. What works, What dont? Due to the weight of the gun recoil is mild. I was thinking may be a Red dot of some type.

I have a S&W 686 in .357 mag that I "had" scoped. I had a scope on it for nearly 20 yrs and just last month I took the scope off. It was a Burris 1.5-4x in satin silver to match the gun, I would never purchase another pistol scope from Burris, If I were to rescope it I will be putting a Leupold EER in a fixed power back on. Actually, I bought one in 2x silver from a member on this site last yr.
I also have a NIB Leupold red dot that has never seen daylight.

Leupold scope is a good choice if you want magnification. Its NOT a fast acquisition scope though.
A red dot is a good choice for faster target acquisition if you aren't going for accuracy at long ranges. Most red dots are 4 mil dots +. That means it covers at least 4" at 100yds.
You going to be stand hunting with a rest? Stalking with sticks? Shooting freehand?

The M8 is an excellect scope. I own 2, I mounted one on my Ithaca 37 featherlight 12ga back in 1980. The receiver was not drilled and tapped but the barrel was set up with weaver ring grooves machined in the rear sight ramp. Back then, that was the set up, to barrel mount the scope. I killed a ton of deer with that rig and never once had to readj. the scope, even after removing the barrel multiple times for a good gun cleaning or swapping to my shoot barrel.
