Well, I was told my insight was useless since I'm a Gator fan...

I'm warming up to him. I think he may work out. He needs a really good Defensive Coordinator. I hope he gets Tee Martin. He needs to get a good quarterback. We need a Kicking coach bad. Our kicking game has been bad for a while now. Tennessee has a long history of great kicking, going back to George Cafego.

Time will tell. But, I am thinking he will grow into a very good coach.

He was asked about not being Tennessee's first choice and if that bothered him. He said it did not bother him at all. He was his wife's third choice and that has worked out for 20 years now.
True story!

WOW Gator that's a lot coming from you....
You are correct no one knows.
My opinion is this, Hart is taking a lot of flack for how this panned out. I figured it would be Jones from the start.
The problem is no one EVER knows how these searches pan out and what happens behind the scenes.
He HAD to court Gruden to appease the fan base.
Gundy was a good look but surely no one thought he would leave his Alma mater.
Strong was said to be the guy from the start and I commend him for staying with who gave him his first shot( and he got compensated well for staying).
I think Gundy and Strings decision will come back to bite them on the arse.
DD aside it takes a certain brevado to step outside of your comfort level and tackle the SEC.
Is he the sexy pick, NO, BUT a solid hire and a more solid hire than making a splash to make the fan base happy.
Someone else said on here our schedule is going to produce losses in the first 6 games regardless of the coach next year.
Good to get someone in and work in keeping recruits and sell the fact there is playing time from day one.
One of the players tweeted its good to know everything will be opened up and we can compete on the field to see who gets to play. Will we win the SEC in two years probably not but I think it's a good start.
Better him than an also ran and or an unproven OC/DC from college or pros.
He turned down other jobs in hopes of landing at UT.
I will buy my season tix and I WILL be in Oregon to support our new coach.
Mark another win for the Gators next year over the VOLS, after that who knows....

In my opinion, and thats all it is and may not be worth 2 squirts of P to anybody else on here, I think Butch Jones is a great hire. But, since his last name wasn't Gruden the majority of Tennessee fans think we may as well discontinue the football program.

I think he will do a good job if he is supported and given time. They need to rid of Dave Hart, he's an idiot and now maybe we don't have to hear the name Gruden ever again.

I am not a TN fan but do pay attention to what a lot of people are saying here in Nashville. I keep hearing he will not be able to recruit the south. If you look at his Cincinnati roster he does recruit well in the south. He has 24 plus players from Florida 4 from Ky and 2 from Tn. mixed in are a ton from Ohio and Penn.

I will support him until there is no possible reason to. I am hopeful that he will succeed. One thing in his favor is that he seems to be an honest man and full of energy. His record seems pretty strong and most of all, he really wants to be here. If he has thick skin to handle the fair weather fans around here, he will be just fine.

I keep hearing the words..big name coach.......??

How many big name coaches do you know that are willing to leave the school that they are at right now, getting paid well to be successful there and wouldn't the school put up a fight to keep them?

Why would a big name coach leave the school that helped him get that big name and come to a school that is struggling right now, regardless of the name of the school and it's history.

I think that UT fans (I am one of them) think alot more of their team and football history than most of America does.

The last and only national championship I witnessed 1998 was pretty much luck to even get there......thanks Arkansas!!!

Listen, the vols are not very good right now. A quick turnaround is not realistic. This guy seems to be passionate and enjoys what he does and hopefully he can coach the kids UP to begin a new era in Tennessee....

You gotta give the guy a chance , since no BIG NAME coaches were beating down the door to move to the hills of Tennessee...and never will, imo.

It's gonna take a few years ...are you willing to wait....?

Do we have a choice...??? lol

I was not excited by the hire, but that probably comes from Hart's statements concerning who he was looking for. That said, I'm going to give Jones the benefit of the doubt. He has won conference championships at each level he has coached. Can he compete at the SEC level? We're about to find out. And in today's college football world, no longer does a coach get three years of "probation" from the fanbase. He will have to show significant improvement his first year and be fairly competitive in the East Division his second year. That may not be fair but it is reality.

Great post?

Everyone wanted the All World Gruden to come in and save the day. When at he end of the day he wasn't even remotely interested. The Power of he Internet!

I think we are in good hands. But people need to understand we aren't winning 11-12 games next year. We aren't going to the 2014 BCS 4 team playoff....fact! This football program is in bad shape. It's gonna take time.

If you are going to say "terrible hire" you need to quantify the statemint.
