put the front legs into the rope on the head, makes it pull easier if you have to go thru brush ect.. Now your talking, strap each front leg across the nose right to the 12" stick through the nose, and they will pull along like a bullet. No secrets here as I know many old timers that have been 'sticking' their nose for many years! As for gutting them I dont see any need for a rope on 2 legs, as I promise you I will be totally finished gutting with the pelvic bone cut and split, gutted clean as a whistle before you can get you rope out and do all that tieing! Field dressing a deer is really just about 3 minutes of work at most.
Can you detail your steps or video one being done. Looking for ANY different methods that can make it easier for me to do some things myself. Hate always needing help with these issues as I fight to get my health back.(Someone has to field dress, drag and load all deer now).I was never that slow or bad, but never in 3 minutes either, lol.
The faster I can do things and the easier the better my chances.
I WILL hunt in 2013 !!!!

Not trying to hijack the thread, just add to it. I see several mentioning back problems and bending over to gut the deer. I know an ole timer who carries a small set of pulleys and rope in his pack. He places a short piece of rope around a tree as high as he can reach, then attaches the pulleys and rope to it and to the deers neck. He raises the deer up the tree and is able to stand and gut the deer. He bungs the deer first and as he is gutting, he cuts the windpipe and starts at the top and lets everything just roll out the bottom it also drain a great deal if not all the blood out of the body cavity. Personally, I find it to be alot of extra work. But I am not nearly 80 y/o either.

Three minutes seems like along time just to get the guts out I have a bad back and need all the help I can get. Also, I like to do a thorough, clean job. Unless I am going to mount one, I split the chest all the way up to the neck as well as the pelvis and do a clean job from the trachea on down. Plus, I'm no hurry, the deer aint going anywhere and it aint slash and pull.
In addition to the other crap, my hands now cramp severely while holding things (knife, tools, etc.)
Not in a hurry, but if it can do a good job faster, I'll take it.
Have used all your tips except nose/hook/stick at one time or another.
