The thing that bugs me is that Manti T'eo does not have the numbers to support his Heisman run. It is purely media hype.

The Heisman has been a joke for a while now. A lot of non-deserving winners and invitees over the years.
Media drives it and I haven't watched it in a while.
Manziel is best of who has a shot.

I keep checking espn.com thinking "When are they going to give this thing away?"...then I realize today is Friday.

Yall remember how much of a National Story Tim Tebow was? Remember all the unbreakable rushing records he set? He won the Heisman in 2007. Remember when Cam Newton beat all Tebows records in 2010 setting SEC passing and rushing records? Newton won it that year.
Johnny Football has beaten Tebow and Newtons records setting new SEC records...and he did it in 2 fewer games than Newton! He has thrown for 3,419 yards and run for 1,181 in just 13 games! This Heisman race shouldn't even be in question. If it weren't for him being a freshman, they wouldn't even vote this year, just mail it to him.

Manti Te'o is more deserving, but Manziel will win it for playing good against Alabama and he because he's a QB. History shows the Heisman is not always about who runs up the biggest stats during a season (although many times it was about that). When you consider the type of linebacking Te'o was asked to play this year, his stats are incredible. He was not asked to blitz and very rarely did so. His role was to stuff the run and patrol the middle. He did it almost flawlessly, missing only 2 tackles during the entire season. His 100+ tackles and 7 picks is something that hasn't been accomplished in years. His team is 12-0 and playing for the national championship because of defense. He is the undisputed leader of the defense and the team. Many times the Heisman has gone to the best player on the best team even though they were nowhere close to being the best player statistically (Troy Smith, Eric Crouch, Jason White, Matt Leinart, Gino Toretta, etc.). Te'o is that guy. If you don't think Te'o is deserving of the Heisman or of being a Heisman candidate, then you must feel the same way about many of the Heisman winners over the years.
Yes, I'm a ND homer. But someone needs to inject to some reality into the SEC fog that hovers over this place and blocks all things non-SEC from view.

I think the Heisman voting base is so regionalized in many cases that some of the more deserving players in other areas never get a second look.
If you look at the espn voting map. The Manziel red states sort of look like the Romney states.

there are 50+ players in Div 1 football with over 100 tackles this year. ...and 3 players with 7 int's 1 with 8...along with 3 returned for TD's.
All Te'o has going for him is being a really good player on an undefeated team.
Manziel has already rewritten the records of 2 recent Heisman winners in 2 less games. He will win it deserving.

Manziel deserves the Heisman. But we all know how major programs promote their players spending big $$$ and rubbing elbows with the sports writers.
