So ive decided to plant just 5 acres of Loblolly pines next to an existing bedding area to just extend it and make it more secluded. Question, where can I get a planting crew and what is the spacing??Its still at the entrance of my farm but heybetter is better regardless..They are going to be out feeding at night night,,I wont bump them going in cause they will be headed back..I have a clean road going through one side. When is the best time to plant.BTW Im not doing this thinking of making money in the future, its just for bedding cover.

With only 5 acres you can plant it in a weekend or less. I planted mine I believe with 10' spacing. February is a great month to plant them.

8' x 8' or 10' x 10' are both good spacings.

Plant them yourself, it is not hard. If you have a couple of people help you it can be done really quickly. Here is what you need.
A dibble bar or two (Depending on how many people you have) Fertilizer pellets Micchorizal Innoculant A couple of 5 gallon buckets Water Trees (about 2200 for 10x10 spacing)
First person in the crew makes the hole and drops a fertilizer pellet in. Second person puts in the tree and stomps the dirt in around it. Go to next tree.
The first person is carrying the dibble bar and fertilizer pellets, the second person is carrying the 5 gallon bucket with trees and innoculant. Every 3 moderately long steps, put a tree in the ground.
If you want to make it easier on the seconf person, innoculate half the trees the night before and they can carry just the innoculated trees with them. Just dont let the roots dry out. They make a belt and bag for this too.
You can order everything except the trees from Forestry Suppliers, and it would make a good weekend project for 2-4 people.

State nursery has great prices, around $45 dollars for 500 trees.

If the ground is clear and you got a good hodad, you can knock it out in a day or 2. I wouldn't fool with fertilizer or anything else.
