It's been 71 years since my grandfather died on the USS California. Serval of his sons and sons in law went into the war. One was captured in Bataan and went though the Bataan Death March, he stayed a POW until the end of the war.

We visited Pearl Harbor in 2007 when we went to Hawaii. That was honestly the highlight of the trip. The Patriotism that was felt while standing there was unreal. The USS Arizona where the memorial is built still leaks oil today. If you ever go to Hawaii, make sure that a Pearl Harbor visit is on the bucket list. God Bless America!!!

I have an American flag in a display case on my desk at home, that flew over the Arizona in 1996.

When I went to Hawaii I had ordered ahead of time an American flag from the USS Missoui that would be flown over the ship the same day I was aboard on the first day there. They shiped it to me the next day and it was there when I got back home.

I received mine from my coworkers when I was leaving Hawai'i. Great flag, excellent Koa wood presentation case.

When I left in 1996, the Missouri wasn't there and there was no bridge to Ford Island. There also weren't any tours of Pearl Harbor without a DD Form 2.

That's awesome about the flags. We toured the USS Missouri when we were there, too.

Stood on Arizona memorial in '76. Went up to the Dole plantation where the Zero's flew through the gap in the mountains. Before long this day will hardly get noticed. \:\(

My Dad was in the Army at that time and married my Mom on Dec 6, 1941. They never made their planned honeymoon because of the attack.

My Grandfather was on of the few to make it off the Arizona. Remember him jumping out of bed screaming abandon ship many nights. the nightmare got him in 75 when he took his own life.

I agree, and it's truly sad that our government schools are failing to teach real history and it's importance.

Too many people today now have no appreciation of the prices paid by our Forefathers for our freedoms, which we appear to be now squandering.
