About half the bucks I see yearly have broken racks or missing tines. It's saved several of them in the past.
Last year a high fenced operation in Wisconsin (only has bucks inside the fence) had a hot doe enter under the fence in a low spot. 50 bucks died fighting over that 1 doe. The owner lost a heap of money but with tha kind of outfit I'm sure he was insured.

An injured or sick buck will shed a rack at any time. Also nutrition plays a factor. In poor years, bucks tend to shed earlier. Our food here has been great and to date, I have not seen any bucks with shed racks, just broken ones.
Alos, not unusual for the three places I hunt, but still, not the first scrape and only three early rubs.
