Check the rules and reg's first. Some WMA's and counties have specific reg's concerning the use of a boat for turkey.

Yea i would rather be somewhere I had to use a boat, you can cover a lot more ground. It is usually a kill when we put in the river.

Yea put in before daylight and start floating, or anytime of the day on the river is good. You can cover so much more ground in a boat. It takes us six hours to float from bridge to bridge on our best run, and its usually no question whether there will be a bird in those six hours.

We have floated under them gobbling and killed them, not my favorite but meat is meat. Called them up to the boat when water was high too, but most of the time we set up on river dumps if we got one hot.

I cannot tell all my secrets but I am a couple counties over. I have been through the Obion wma by river just riding and it looks fairly easy to kill a bird in that area.

I don't mean easy because there are no gaurantees with turkeys but going in by river is the only way I would hunt some of these wma's just because of the other hunters and more ground coverage.

Read the regs, there are certain counties you cannot hunt turkeys from a boat.

Read the regs, there are certain counties you cannot hunt turkeys from a boat. I was thinking aedc. I cant find anything about it. But I thought I might ask when it gets a little closer to season.

Prohibited Acts section on page 33 of the 2012 H&T Guide states the following:
"Turkeys may not be shot or stalked from a boat in Dyer, Haywood, Lauderdale, Obion, Shelby or Tipton counties."
It is my understanding that you can still use a boat to access your hunting property, if need be.

I have never hunted from a boat but have seen a lot of turkeys along the bank on a lake while I was fishing in the spring. May have to give it a try this spring.

Think'n ther mite be something about you need permission from the landowner of which the bird is killed on before hand, but dont hold me to it.
I've considered it myself, sounds like a fun time.

I hunted a wma last year in mid tn and had 4 guys in two boats come in on me right before fly down and started shooting birds from the roost hens, jakes , the works needless to say they no longer have a boat, gun or a tn hunting license. Point of the story if your gonna use a boat just make sure it's for access or complies with the regulations
