Don't know who on here works at a GM dealership or who would know but got told some bad news today. My water pump or timing chain is about to go out! So if anyone knows anything about this can you help me out on a price? My little car only has 74000 miles on it and it's a 2004 model Saturn Ion. Don't know what I'm gunna do if the price is ridiculous.

Whatever you do not take it to the dealer for work.
The starter went out on my truck Saturday evening and I had it towed to the dealer...I was thinking $350 total ($200 part / $150 labor)...They were gonna charge $370 for the starter, $250 labor, $750 with tax and other fees.

Ain't ya got a husband/boyfriend? Water pumps aren't that hard to put on yourself...And their not to expensive.On our 04 pontiac vibe,the water pump went out on it and the part was only $40ish.And it wasn't too difficult to put on either.Now if its your timing chain,it takes a little more know how,but not impossible.Just get you a $20 repair manual and do it yourself.

Water pumps in cars with sideways engines have always been a pain. Have to pull the engine to get to it in the ones I have seen. I'd take it to a good mechanic and have it checked out before it goes out.

I have questions about who told you these items were "about to go out". How did they determine this and what are the symptoms? Sounds kinda weird to me...

A mechanic for one of the places around the house. I popped my hood and he said its internal and that's what it was.
