Just thought Id take a minute to update my old thread about the plot I split in half with Eagle Beans and these Dyna-gro Group 7 beans. Here is the link to the orginal thread. Eagles vs Dyna gro Group 7 Here are some shots from this morning. As you can see, I had a bad weed problem toward the end, mainly marestail. I could have gotten rid of more of the grasses with one more spraying back in the summer.
Dyna Gro on Left and Eagles on right [img] [/img]
You can see the Eagles got really tall despite the dry summer and still managed to produce a lot of pods and good sized beans, even though they are a forage bean. [img] [/img]
The DG group 7's are a long season ag bean. Meaning they are meant to produce beans, and they did. They never did achieve the height of the Eagles, but I didnt expect them too. [img] [/img]
Here is some side by side shots. [img] [/img] [img] [/img]

Yeah, that is very interesting. Definitely more beans produced by the Dyno, but the growth of the Eagles was considerably more as far as height is concerned.

What was the cost comparison of the two. I see from the original post the cost of the Dyna Gro was $ 65 a bag. It looks like the Dyna Gros made as many or more beans than the Eagles.

Looks like the eagle would be better early season and the dyno would be better late season..,

Thats correct, the group 7 were $65 a bag, and eagles run $85 and up dependimg on shipping or retail prices.
It is fact that the DG produced more beans as an ag bean should, but the eagles, more vegatative growth, earlier in the season.

What do you think the results would be if both of these were grown in narrow rows? Might be an idea for next year.

Yes, this is at my farm in christiana, southwest rutherford county.
The deer density is low here so I can do these small test plots and not have the deer destory them!

That's what I was wondering. I highly doubt I could plant those in Hickman. Our wheat and oats could barely come up. They are still wearing it out!

Could you tell a difference in use? Did the deer use one side of the plot more than the other?

I know for me I will continue to use Eagle Bean Soybeans. I get them for less than $75 at my co-op. I would mix the two, assuming the other brand is RR. I am not as concerned with late season beans it is just a bonus. I broadcast WW and clover in my plots in the fall with whatever beans are left to still stand.
Thanks Justin for the comparison. It is always good for us as managers to keep testing and working on our properties.
