Now that Strong and Gundy have turned down the job, UT's goose is cooked. There aren't any other proven quality coaches to go after. This was UT's last chance to return to prominance, and it looks like they blew it.
You can flush the football program down the toilet for the next 20-30 years.

Its starting to look like nobody wants the job,so if theyre goin to give an unproven coach a shot what about Bill Bates the guy is a legend around knoxville already and he knows football.ok maybe im just dreamin!

I'm sure I'm gonna hear it from the UT drones but right now UT is not an outstanding job to take. Perhaps one day it will be again but it's not now.

I don't see how you can say Tennessee blew it...???
Gundy is currently coaching at the school he played at, the only school he has coached at except for 1 year at Baylor and 3 years at Maryland. The entire rest of his what 30 year career has been at Oklahoma State, the same state he played high school football in. He was never going to leave Oklahoma (unless he gets fired)!!! Tennessee did not blow this. He was using Tennessee and Arkansas as bait to help himself out. That is what really happened with Gundy.
Same thing with Gruden. He was never seriously considering a position at any college. He was never interested in leaving his post at ESPN. He has the perfect job. He doesn't have to spend 9 months on the road per year to recruit. He doesn't have to put in 20 hour days in the fall and spring. He doesn't have to deal with boosters and crazy fans. Why would he entertain an offer from any University???? For attention (and we all know Chucky loves the spotlight) and money.
Missing out on Charlie Strong hurt. I will admit to that. I wanted him to come to Knoxville as my first choice. But, he is at a job where he can compete for conference title every year with much more ease and with athletes of lesser talent (even though his current batch of athletes can compete with almost any team). He has control of his program, a program that gave him a job when other programs would not. He is being loyal to the people who helped him get started. I respect that. I hate it, but I respect that. He gave Tennessee an honest look, which I don't think the previous two did, and he decided that it was best for him and his family to stay put. That is not David Hart's fault. That is a personal decision that Charlie Strong had to make for himself.
This sets the Tennessee Program back. Without a doubt David Hart is sweating this out. But, right now the only real offer that was turned down was Strong the other candidates were not seriously considering leaving their current station. They were just using the interest of Tennesse, Arkansas, etc. to get what they wanted from where they were at, already.

Agreed. My vol buddies tell me that ND fans are living in the past. Well, my how times have changed. UT is living in the past as well still thinking they're a national powerhouse.
Since their NC win they've been on a slow steady decline. The last 3 years have been spent hitting the ground.
