If I have a non-resident friend coming to go deer hunting with me in Tennessee IN A UNIT L COUNTY, as long as he's legal to deer hunt, can he kill an antlerless deer?

Yes, with a type 94 permit.

For an adult, his type 073 or 074 NR big game LICENSE covers him/her for using all legal types of weapons.

It does not cover him/her for any needed PERMIT. The Unit L anterlerless hunting is a Special Season hunt and IS NOT tied into the statewide bag limit. It requires the Type 94 permit.

Steve, thanks for the clarification.

Wish TWRA would change this one so anyone hunting a Unit L county could shoot a doe instead of a young buck when all they want is a little venison (without having to pony up the extra money for a Type 94).

Understood, and the issue is being looked at. Unfortunately, it involves enough money that we can't just make the change without considering the financial implications.

I understand.
But seems a slight increase in that $251 non-resident deer license, i.e. just make it $271 and let them all shoot a doe would be simple enough.

In the meantime, as long as a non-resident has to pay extra for the "privilege" of shooting a doe, most may remain happy with being "limited" to 3 bucks?
