So, given my recent problems with local butchers I do believe I will be doing my own next time. I've found some books and videos that make it look fairly straight forward, just time consuming.

Question, my local landfill expressly states they do not want animal carcasses. What do you all do with your leftovers?

Also a good recommendation for a meat grinder in the less than $200 range.

Thanks so much,
Charlie

Skin and quarter the deer at your hunting grounds. Leave the hide and hooves for the scavengers. After that, I have very little that gets thrown away. I have a pile of meat scraps that I feed the dogs over a course of a week. Other scarps and bones get cooked down for stock. While that gets thrown away, its hardly what you could consider a carcass as its not different than throwing away the ribs after you brought home some BBQ.

Poser is going to tell you to grind the bones down to a fine meal to use for breading......

Charlie,

It is not all that difficult processing your own deer, once you have done and get the hang of it, you learn how all the muscle groups dismember and the time is cut down quickly.

As far as the waste, I use mine for 'yote bait or bag it and drop it in with my regular garbage at the landfill a bag at a time. It is mostly bones...............

As far as a decent grinder, check Dick's. I bought mine there a few yrs ago, @ $50 and it works great.

I use a hacksaw and cut up the carcass. It then does in a couple of doubled black trash bags and gets tossed in with all the other garbage.

Lots of guys seem to have some big hole on their property that they dispose of the left over carcass. Others have a "way back" spot that they pile the carcass's over the years... sort of like their very own "bone graveyard".
