Someone else paying for it is the best possible thing that could happen. Even if you had to take out a loan to do some of it, just think how fast you could pay it off of you contined to live off the salary your currently live on, and put all the extra towards the loan payments. My guess would e 3-6 months tops.

ive been thinking about going back to school and im 27 but i cant decide on what lol Im in the same boat
I wouldn't advise in anyone going to school without a detailed plan. IMO there are too many people going to college these days just because they think they should or have to in order to get a good job.
LOTS of people amass 50K in debt and find themselves 3-5 years behind in their careers only to end up working in a job unrelated to their field of study or in a job they could have gotten straight out of high school.
The world just doesn't need 10,000 generic business management major graduates every year or even 100 history or art/music major graduates. A technical trade, apprenticeship or some kind of specialized skill is a good alternative. Our country has a major lack of welders, pipefitters and machinists right now...all stable good-paying jobs.
Now if an employer is paying for it, or you have a scholarship that is another story. But 3-5 years time and 50K is a big gamble without a specific plan.

Get the education. As long as the education is pertinent to what you want to do in the future-- and provided you can make a living doing that in the future, it is a good plan. I worked for a company for 21 years and thought I had a job til I retired. I got laid off in 2002 and have been laid off 9 times since. After a full year and 1/2 of searching for a job and only getting 4 interviews (two of those were courtesy interviews for a friend) I decided that I had to do something different. So at 50 years old with 0 hrs of college credit I went back to school this summer. I am in my second semester of full time school and carrying a 4.0 GPA (depending on next weeks finals). Its been tough. I did not want to do this. I fought it. I resisted. But even a fat old man can see the writing on the wall once his nose is pressed up against it. I am working toward an Associate Degree in Medical Infomatics. I have been promised high job placement oppotunities upon graduation. Who knows???? I did get a scholarship and I am hoping my GPA will make more available. My wife works so we are making ends meet. I soon to empty my 401K to pay for a summer semester (loans and scholarship don't pay for year round classes). I will graduate with more debt. But, I'm hoping the opportunities will help me to put something back into retirement before I die. I don't expect to ever retire. So if you have the chance take it. Do it now while you're young. The online classess are convienient I have only taken one but next semester I will be taking 16 hours and 9 of those will be online.

Do it buddy! I'm in school now and I'm an old man. My company also picks up the tab for me to further my education. It's a great deal, you can take your education with you where you go down the road.

You are young enough that a couple of yrs in school is perfect for you now. But as you are making plans for the future you might keep in mind that as long as you work for somebody else they, not you, control your future. If you are the self-motivated type of person that it takes to do it, remember that running your own business is the ultimate freedom. Once most people get a taste of it, they never want to work for anyone else again. So YES, go get those classes and education now. But keep in mind that nobody gets rich working for somebody else. To make money you have to provide a service or product that others are unwilling /unable to do for themselves AND they are willing to pay someone else to do.

Take this for what it is worth.....I do this for a living!
1) Talk to an advisor that teaches full time in the field you are planning to get an education in.
2) Talk to the financial aid office on that campus about what you qualify for, unless the company is paying.
3) Seek counsel from your advisor for anything and everything while you are in school. That have been there and done that, and still have the stains from the after party on the t-shirt.
4) Only a fool would pass up the opportunity. I have heard ten thousand excuses for not going to school, and frankly, we all know what excuses are like don't we?
5) If you need any help, I would be glad to help. Send me a pm and I will give you my phone and email.

It is a difficult decision to make, but somethings that can make your decision easier. With an education you are expanding upon the experience you have gained, for the next possible position or job that may come available. With an education you have now become more of an asset, not only to the present company but also to other employers. I am 44 and have worked for 3 companies who have either shutdown or sold out to 3rd party organizations, and these were not small family owned companies. John Deere, Wyeth Pharma were the two major the other was a German company that moved to Illinois. I also have decided to go back to school and attain a degree, but changing careers completely, I will be in my 2nd semester of Nursing starting in Jan. My advise is to be proactive in your decision, jobs are not as secure as they once were.

Ok, here is the simple answer. Stay the course and make what your making forever with marginal pay increased. Take the plunge and a chance with the company picking up most of the tab and double your salary. You lose your job in two years now and you start over where you are. You go to school and it doesn't work out or you lose your job down the road and start over as a manager or whatever your schooling prepares you for. My point is, they like you and think enough of you to offer. You take the classes and are a success and you double your income, you take the classes and don't like it, your the same place you are. NO BRAINER, get your A$$ in school....
