I found a few of these in lil nub head when I was butchering him today. In respiratory area. I wish I had saved them for bait but I threw em out. I'm assuming bot flies?

Looks like bot fly to me. I've seen lots that didn't have so many black specks on them, but the overall appearance is the same.

Someone else had just reported on here a few days ago about finding the exact same problem. It was said that they will sometimes be found in the chest cavity after field dressing, if they crawl down the trachea.

No biggie - just wash them out and proceed.

We found those in many rabbits killed over the years.... I heard them called Wolves.... Have seen them in squirrels too.... but not deer or other animals.

After the host dies, they will crawl out of their little "air" opening in the skin.

these did not come out of the skin, they were in the cavity up where the lungs used to be.

All the ones I have ever found were burrowed into the skin in no particular location.... they live inside a little "pouch" area under the hide... They had a tiny hole to breath out of (I guess) but not usually big enough to squeeze them out of unless they crawled out on their own.

After the host was dead, you could see them moving around under the skin.... if the animal was left alone for a bit, you could usually see them things crawling out or laying on the truckbed wiggling around.

The nasal bots are in a different genus from the subcutaneous warbles. The nasal bots are larvae of flies in the genus Cephenemyia while the warbles are in the genus Cuterebra. Both are fly larvae, but they are very different flies. The larvae look very different too.

Catman....what you found was in fact a bot fly larva.
