Help with Binoculars

I went to Bass Pro and was looking at getting some new binoculars for xmas somewhere around the 200 range...here is what i came up with and would like some input from you guys as to what you think
oculus 5.0
bushnell trophy xlt
nikon prostaff
all these come in 8x42 and 10x42
any advice as to what is better should i go with the 8 or the 10?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Really depends where and how your using them? Do you hunt mainly wooded areas where visibility is 200 yards or less, or do you hunt areas with lots of open areas or fields where visibility can be much farther? Do you hunt exclusively in stands or do you move around a lot? Lots of questions to form answer.

Assuming you've got your heart set on a full size pair of binoculars, for an all around pair I would go with the Trophy XLT in 8x42. They'll have a wider field of view than the 10x42 but still give you plenty of magnification. If you're looking for a pair to keep in a shooting house or your truck I'd go for 12x50s. There's a $25 rebate on the fullsize Trophy XLTs right now http://www.bushnell.com/global/promotions.
Personally, I have a pair of Trophy XLT 8x32 that I carry. They're small, light and fit in my jacket pocket. I carried full size binoculars for a long time but won't ever go back to them.

I prefer the 8x. The higher magnifications tend to exaggerate shakiness.

Out of those 3 you mentioned I would go with the Nikon ProStaff 7's. BP has them for $189 for 8x42 or $199 for 10x42. The Trophy is a good choice but no comparison to the Nikon. As for Oculus, the 7.0 is excellent; very clear, good optics. With the 5.0 you will have a headache after glassing for a while. Look through the Leupold Acadia's also, personally I would still go with the Nikon's but the Leupold is good too.

nikon 10x42;s is what i have and they work great in woods or fields

i hunt main woods....but do hunt fields with typically looking no further than a couple 100 yeards

Definitely 8x42. My pair of 10x42 bino's collect dust unless I go somewhere that's wide open for hundreds of yards. I have a pair of 7x32 that are my favorite binos for TN hunting.

Before purchasing, take a look at the Leupold Rogue. They come in a 8x25 which is compact enough for carrying. I compared them to binos costing much more and came away impressed. Excellent light gathering and clear as can be. They run about $99. I think you will like them.

nikon 10x42;s is what i have and they work great in woods or fields
like them so much that i replaced a stolen pair with the same thing. i have the monarch ATB's though.
