I've got a rem 700 7mm adl I've had for 15 yrs I've been thinking about having a new barrel put on it and of course a stock scope trigger etc..... what do you all think. I've got a rem 700 police 300 win mag that I shoot out to 1000yds so yes I will probably be stretching my new build out also. Should I stay with the 7mm? Give me some ideas

I spotted a guy yesterday shooting a straight 284 Win case in a long action Rem 700 with a 27 inch barrel,,with the long action he had the rifle built to take the 180 Berger with the bullet seated out long with no bullet in the case below the shoulder.he was running RL17 at 2875 fps,,he was shooting very well at 1,000 and asked me to spot for him on the 1525 target,,he was using a Kahles scope and a 20-60 Swarvo spotter,he put in his dope and hit .8 mils low according to the reticle in the spotter
I told him to come up 8 clix and give it 3 clix right,,he dialed in the elevation and held off for wind and dead centered the target on the second shot.

it made a believer out of me,,he was basically shooting the same BC bullet at the same speeds as my 338 LM load with 52-53 grs of powder and bullets 120 grs lighter,,

I could switch to 300 gr bullets and leave him in the dust past the 1500 mark and be lots better past a mile,,but dang I have never even been anywhere you could see that far ,,

if I was building a new rifle from scratch,,it would be the 284 or one of the 7mm short magnums in a long action
