Why would someone steal an SD card and leave the camera? They'd give up their honesty for a measly $12 card? Or are they too lazy to carry the camera home?

I hope it didn't ruin the camera to leave it on with no card. It's a Moultrie XT-80. I'm as sure as I can be that I left the card in it last week. It had 50% battery power showing last week and that's usually good for a month. I put a new card in it but now it won't start up or even turn on the red aiming light. The screen just has a yellow background glow.

I'm still at the woods. When I get home I'll put in new batts and see if it works.

I'm only putting very cheap cameras out during season from now on.

They probably didn't really want the card, just didn't want you to have pictures of them.

That's what my wife said. Good point. I guess that's like saying "I'm not a thief, but I don't want you to know I'm a trespasser."

Yep didn't want you to have pictures of them... Had that happen to some friends before or had the trespasser turn the camera off and on when they left. Only reason we knew that was we hid a camera watching the other 1 after having gaps in our pictures.

I've heard of guys doing similar things. Best one I heard was a guy who used his climber to put a cam in a tree above the other cam. If I'm not mistaken the man that was sneaking in wound up being prosecuted and went to the pokey because he was a convicted felon and had a firearm.

Just checked cams today, trespasser(s) took 3 of my sd cards, left the cams. Two were on a logging road but the other was tucked back a pretty good ways towards the interior of the property, which means they didn't just "happen" upon them. Stood on top of the ranger and hid my blackout cam above an old bushnell that doesn't work, so hopefully I'll catch em.

look around the area pretty good and see if you can find it, cause they may have walked only a little way and tossed it

If im not mistaken most cams have an internal memory that you can access by taking home your cam and using your USB. I know a fella at work had the same situation and he was able to retrieve pictures of his Cousin who actually took the cam home and the returned it. The key is most likely to take your camera home as soon as you discover your SD missing. Hope this works for yall.
