There are sports, scouts and playgrounds for social development.
Any social development they are getting at the hands of the government is not the kind of development most parents would approve of. It's not about guarding them from society. It's about guarding them from activists who teach them opposite of your family values.
This^^^^^ The 'lack of developing social skills' is not a valid point if the parents are homeschooling for the right reasons, as Crappie and his wife would be doing.
Parents who homeschool to shelter their kids from the world are a different matter entirely. I have a cousin who did this. Her two children are now emerging adults and don't have a clue as to how to be self-sufficient in the world they were sheltered from. Her daughter (a very beautiful and sweet girl) will most likely always be dependent on someone to 'take care' of her. Sad.

I found this very interesting;
My History instructor in college was extremely liberal. Loves big government and all the social programs that come with it....
When I asked him which county or city school system he believed was best preparing students for college and life, he said they all seemed to be about the same and was disappointed in all of them. Then...get this....from a flaming liberal...he said the home-schooled students he has had in class have been rock stars...very well prepared, intelligent, never whine about an assignment being too large, and have a work ethic second to none.
He went on to tell me his children would never go to a public school. Strongest testimony I've ever heard in favor of home schooling.

I'm glad you don't buy into the "socialization" myth. As home schooling increased in popularity, the opponents move from one objection to the other. First was academic quality, which was quickly disproven as homeschooled students score 80-85% percentile. When that didn't work, the socialization myth was next. Since parents have learned that desirable social skills don't come as a result of megadoses of for ed interaction with children of their own age who don't behave desirably themselves. Now it's the "world view" exposure, as the NEA and other progressives have recognized that the vast majority of homeschool families are conservative Christians and are producing more at a slightly above average reproductive rate. just sayin'
EXCELLENT POST TX.
I get so sick of hearing that HS kids aren't socialized.
As a buddy of mine put it. "if that means my daughter hasn't been socialized by half of the football team like the rest of the girls there, then I'll take unsociallized every day."

Mr. Morris, The only day that we have discussed Global Warming was Monday. We only discussed it briefly in regards to the atmosphere in our science lesson. Thank you, Mrs. (name)
Sir, We only indoctrinated him a little bit
Bake her some Brownies and take them to her, then tell her you put in just a little Dog Poop, but it should not be enough to hurt her......

Mrs. (Name),
Tony has been coming home talking about learning about Global Warming in school. This concerns me since that topic is short on science and rather saturated in political agenda. We are working with Tony to keep his grades up in sound topics, math facts and history with leaves little time to reverse political indoctrination or presenting opposing arguments to such debated topics such as global warming.
If they are learning about Global Warming, please take the time to present both sides of the theory and not present the topic as fact or science.
Thanks Roger i teach widlife science, agriscience, animals science, and i am certified for physical science, biology and chemistry. unfortunately, teacher have cover state mandated spi's (student performance indicators) and objectives. we now have pacing guides that make sure that not only are these things being taught, but that they are being taught in a specific window of time. your complaint should be to the state department of education, rather than the teacher who is forced to cover the state mandated objectives. BTW, i am also a business owner, as conservative as they come, not a member of an teachers union and feel that global warming is complete BS Is global warming one of the objectives that are passed by the DOE? I know there is some crap in them and you are right the only way you fix education is to start at the top. This is the time also as we have the power to push any law through.
i can check and see
