Stretched and possibly broke my transducer cable for my new Humminbird 597 HDdi. Lost the signal to the unit. Can these cables be repaired.

The wires don't look to be broken, but the shielding coating has been compromised. Just wondering if anyone on here knows if this can be repaired. This is my third transducer/cable in less than a year and at $170.00 a pop, kinda getting tiresome.

Check BBC... Bass boat central. I'm sure someone over there can answer it for you. It's a forum board much like this one.

Try some dielctric grease in the plug in port first. I have read where the connectors get worn out a little. If this is the case, the grease may help with contact.

This is a fairly new unit so it isn't in the connections. The cable got stretched when my Ipilot trolling motor wound the cable around the shaft and pulled it tight against the edge of the switch mounting plate in the front of the boat.

This happened when it was on anchor lock and we were fishing in the generation turbulence below a dam and the boat was going in all different directions and the trolling motor was trying to keep us on "spot".

It cut into the plastic housing on the cable and cut into the shielding coaxial cable around the wires.

When it happened, I lost the picture on the graph but not the time, temp, and non transducer produced info. I just got no feedback from the transducer.

I shipped it off to a fellow on this forum that is very knowledgeable in this area. He says he can probably fix it. I'm hopeful that he can.
