Well....we leave tomorrow for Southwest Iowa for the shotgun opener on Saturday. We will hunt Saturday, Sunday, and Monday then come back. I'm excited to enter the land of the giants but at the same time i'm not....as it should normally be in the 20's and 30' this time of year, it is supposed to be in the 50's to 60' this weekend. We'll see how it goes. Last time up there (3 years ago) I killed a 151" 16 point 2 year old... yes, I said 2 year old.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures to share Tuesday.

Ya, not the normal 10 degrees with some snow, but the deer are still in the late stage of rut this year which might help. Not sure were you're hunting, but don't pass up the smaller out of the way patches of cover. This time of year and being so warm the big boys like those small out in the open areas that everyone bypasses to get to the big timbers. Hopefully the full moon is about over too.

Thanks for the advice. My hopes are a little higher based on the phone call I got this morning. The land owner went up this week (he lives in Nashville) and he has been driving around his farm looking. He has seen some decent bucks but not any of the real big ones. He said deer are moving at all hours and he has two or three "secret spots" that the drivers and pushers overlook because they are the small out of the way patches....just like you said. Hopefully with a little luck we'll see some good deer.

Lot of areas where hit hard with EHD this summer so the numbers are down but seeing some quality bucks this year. Some places have reported 30 or more deer dead on their hunting property. Southern Iowa hit the hardest, but then again we have the highest deer population also. Real mild winter last year so it didn't add the stress to the bucks and I think they maybe a little better quality in some places. Good luck and hope everything goes good for you. I'll be in my blind also with a doe tag since I hunt late ML, but my brother has his landowner tag if I see something big and party hunting is allowed during shotgun.

Hopefully with a little luck we'll see some good deer. Saw one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen bedded in a fence row and we'd had fresh snow 2 days before and no tracks in or out. It was after we hunted a patch where we thought he would be and he ended up being in a fence row about 300 yards from the house and we watched him and a doe get up and walk over the hill away from us.
