to do taxidermy work in TN do you need to be licensed ? and to be more specific,a buddy wants to get dermastid beetles for skull cleaning, and just charge people a nominal fee for the cleaning. what are if any the legalities here ?? thanks

Yes, there is a taxidermy license. It cost $100.00

Here is the application. Since he is operating a business, he would also have to follow other state and federal laws regarding businesses and income.

is skull cleaning with beetles even considered taxidermy ?? under what ive read seems preparing and mounting skins is the term used ?

It would be taxidermy and would require a taxidermy permit.

yes if you take in any part of the animal to be mounted, cleaned or processed you have to be licensed. He will receive a log book with his lic and will have to record the customers info as well as kill info when they come in.

It looks like I am going to have to get mine again this year. I had planned on not renewing mine, but I have some really good customers asking that I continue to do their work. So since I will be charging them, I need my lic. Perfect timing for this question and the link saves me from having to look it up
