Over the years, I have probably found half a dozen broadheads in deer I have killed.

I found a broadhead in a deer last year. Nearly a spine shot but it had completely healed and showed no signs of infection or anything. Tough animals for sure.

From the looks of it it appears that the bowhunter shot alomost stright down on the deer and got little penetration.

Reason #89 why archery spine shots are a bad idea.

Yep, Ive pulled all manners of broadheads and bullets out of them. One with a muzzy and 10" of arrow still attached comes to mind! Unbelievable animals!

It makes me think about a couple of other things, as well, like broadhead performance (mechanicals?) and sharply downward-angled shots, like twenty-five feet above a deer that's only a few steps away from the tree. It's always the bowhunter's call, but I'll say this. I'd take getting busted over getting only one lung, any day. I haven't bow hunted in a few years, but I never tried mechanicals, and doubt I ever will. Never tried a spine shot, either.

Had to be right under the stand for that kinda shot placement. Glad you found it without being cut.
